Am I the only one who finds business witnessing to be tacky?

I mean, seriously, interrupting people at their place of business, no matter how brief their presentation is, just seems tacky and intrusive, even more so than the door to door work. It's like they're going out of their way to annoy people. Isn't one of the benefits of having to go to work that you aren't at home when JWs call on you? This was one avenue of the preaching work that I refused to partake in.

I'd say even beyond it being tacky, its inappropriate to proselytize at places of business.

Keyser, you reminded of a sister giving an experience in office witnessing way back when I was growing up, so I'd say somewhere between mid 60's - early 70's, these two sisters said they used to travel into Manhattan and do some office witnessing, and of course they were so gracioiusly received ! I didn't even know they were still doing that, especially after 9/11 you need ID just to get to elevator !

I understood that they send out only professionally dressed men and women (without kids along) and they are to request to talk to the owner or manager and then ask for permission to talk to the employees. I did business work this way and found that the owner/manager quite friendly, after all I was a possible future customer. I kept it brief and many good business contacts as well. Of course what is on WTS paper is not always what is in practice.

Agreed keyser. Always felt uncomfortable doing it (more than the usual FS uncomfortable). Worse yet...once worked in a front office and I was the only one up front. My fellow Dubs would show up and ask me to get the boss so they could witness to him...right in front of me. Awkward as hell. The second time it happened I told them I had it covered. Move along you vultures.

I only ever did it to small shops when no one was in them ...I had worked in retail and, in those days, it was not uncommon for a rep. to call on the proprietor unannounced, so I felt o k with it.

When we had our retail store I would have been serious pissed off to stop what I was doing and have to deal with these fruitcakes. Had my employees taken the time to chat instead of sending them on their way I would have told them we do not accept solicitors of any kind. In today's age, pick up a darn phone and qualify your customers. How rude to think others should drop everything for you because you represent a publishing co. out of NY. I never trusted any of the door to door salesmen. Legitimate salespeople always called and set up an appointment first.

Yeah, it seemed over the top to me. I know I don't want anyone bothering me at work.
