    Would I take blood?

    Yes I have.

Three and a half years ago, after a fall of 25 feet, I bled out half my blood internally from where my pelvis was broken away from my spine. I also suffered many other broken bones, and my hemoglobin level was all the way down to 8 (it should have been 14). During the first surgery, the anesthesiologist stopped the operation because I was about to experience a cardiac arrest or heart attack because the heart was not getting enough oxygen because of the hemoglobin level.

As a result, I was given 3 units of whole blood and I'm alive today to tell the tale.

We are told that blood is sacred because the "soul is in the blood." This is a singularly illiterate, ignorant, barbarian teaching in the first place. In the second place, the JWs "now you see it, now you don't" teachings about blood can only be based on some fantasy of theirs that THEY KNOW in which blood fraction the soul is located, thus it can be avoided and the law obeyed, by rejecting that fraction in which the "soul" is located.

As we say in cooking, that teaching is a "crock."

In fact, all that biblical business about blood and its sacredness, and spattering it on the alter, was nothing more than a sop to the fact that the Isrealites had, before Moses, been engaged in human sacrifice and it was for their blood lust that Moses adeptly substituted animals for humans to sacrfifice. And to make a big show out of the blood being spattered all over the place. Can you imagine what that alter looked like, and smelt like after only a couple of months? How 'bout years?? And the burning sacrifices constituted a "restful" smell to Jehovah?

Ever smell burning flesh, human or animal? It's truly nauseating. What kind of barbarian would want all these goings on done in his name? Well Jehovah for one. And Chemosh and Baal and Ashtoreth and all the rest. Only difference being they were using humans still. That's a mighty damn slim difference if you ask me.

I had a transfusion and I don't give two farts in a hurricane what the JWs think about it.

I say that JWs are a barbaric cult, and I say fuck 'em.

HOW THE SUNDAY TALK SAVED MY FATHERS LIFE

Several years ago, my father got a serious blood infection in his foot and instead of getting it treated, thought it would get better with bed rest. He lived in another state at the time and the only person who was able to check on him was his secretary. At a point when his condition appeared grave she rushed him to the hospital where the doctors determined that he needed to have his leg amputated. Of course his general condition had also deteriorated to the point that he would need massive blood transfusions during the surgery. At the time I had been free of the WTS for a number of years and I also knew that my father had rejected the WTS teachings as well.

He was unconscious from the moment he arrived at the hospital and couldn't give consent for the surgery or the blood transfusion. The hospital tried to reach my mother in another state, but alas it was Sunday morning and she was at her Kingdom Hall. Unable to get her on the phone, the nurse at the hospital called me at home. When she explained my fathers condition and asked me for consent on the surgery and transfusion, I didn't hesitate a second. I told them to do whatever they needed to do immediately.

Within the day, I flew to the hospital where he was still in critical condition. The next day my mother and siblings came out to join me. I didn't want to upset anyone so I didn't mention the blood transfusion to any of them, assuming that at this point is was irrelevant.

Unknown to me, the surgeon spoke to my mother shortly after she arrived and told her that he might require more surgery and addtional blood transfusions. I will never forget her anger and contempt she showed to me when I saw her that afternoon in the ICU. For the first time in my life I realized just how flawed the Witness thinking was and reminded her that had it not been for my consent, she would be visiting to make funeral arrangements. I also uttered some serious expletives and walked away.

My father has since passed away, but I was so glad that I was able to make the right decision on the blood issue for him.

Ultimately it is the person going into surgery that has the right to take blood or not. Be careful to ascertain that persons true feeling and not your own if you are in charge. My mom has signed the power of attorney and blood card and has refused any and all blood. I will see to it that's what happens for her even though I don't read that in the bible per say. It seems clear that you had to be taking a life, (animal for food) before the "Noachian Law" kicked in, if one follows that law as pertaining to us yet. Even the Levitical law allowed an Isrealite to eat an animal dead of itself, although one had to wash up and be unclean until evening, LEV 17:15.The logical asumption would be that this animal has its blood yet, in my opinion anyway, and you were in a state of starving to death. As stated in the post above the life seems to be the most important thing here. So if one, as in a blood transfusion, is not killing anyone what's the deal? Why can't we pull this caveat of being unclean until evening and take blood? Or how about strangling an animal but not eating it , would you have the death sentence? It seems that you would have to do two things, kill it and eat it's flesh while not pooring the blood on the ground to be on death row!
However I would, myself, exhaust all the other ways of surgery before taking blood from someone else. Hemodilution, autologous blood recovered during surgery, a doctor skilled in non blood, and non blood expandors. All these are okay to JWs Wathtower 3/1/1989. All these are smart surgery because they do not use second hand body fluids.
If you're NOT a JW then next thing would be to store your own Blood if one has the time, autologous-preoperative. This seems safer to use than someone else's.
So I will not say if I will or won't take whole or parts of someone else's blood , that's mine to decide but I sure don't want to!

    Hello M.C.,

You bet I would take blood! And any HLC member that did not get out of my face on the double I'd chase down with a bat, a bed-pan, or I'd squirt a packet of blood on him! [>:(]

And I WOULD NOT respect my wifes wishes to not take blood, (she is still in). Because Watchtower blood policy is based on a LIE, I will not stand by and see my baby or anyone else for that matter sacrificed on their DISGUSTING, INHUMAN alter!

I'd rather have my baby ALIVE and hateing me than COLD and DEAD!

    Would I take blood?

    You bet!

Blood sausage has quite an exquisite taste. Grilled lightly for just a few minutes, blood sausage / black pudding, is best served with bacon and two fried eggs. If you are lucky enough to be able to grill a couple of lambs kidneys as well, then you are in culinary paradise!

I enjoy this delightful repast at least once a week and find it hilarious that some people get so hung up about it. Even my kid bro, who has been an ex for years, can't bear to watch me eat it. Programmed or what?

For myself and my daughter I would carefully review the situation and determine if there was no other recorse...but ultimately I would take blood and allow my daughter to be given blood if it would increase our chances of survival. I don't think a blood transfusion should be taken lightly because of the risks associated with it and the fact that there are alternative treatments available, but if it was determined to be necessary then I believe it would be irresponsible and wrong not to take it.

I would have a long talk with my mother if I was you...inform her of her choices and let her make her own decision.

I wish you and your mother the best and please let us know how things go with her surgery!

    Without a seconds hesitation yes!!

My wife was in serious trouble with the birth of our 2nd daughter in 1997, and being unconcious I as next of kin was asked to consent to a blood transfusion.

"What the hell are you waiting for?" I nearly scream at them.

"Well it says in her notes which are a bit out of date that she is a JW and we don't want any trouble." returns the consultant.

To cut a long story short I had these inaccurate notes removed from her file and she was given the necessary 2 units of pure red to keep her alive. So if it hadn't been for a blood transfusion my wife and darling 4 yr old daughter wouldn't be here.

After all this was over I sent a standard letter to any and all doctors surgeries/hospitals/clinics that we had ever been involved with asking them to remove all references to JW's and the blood issue that may be on file. This is a serious point. What if you were in a serious accident and the only family to give any consent were devout JW's and also your medical notes were very unclear?? Something to think about.

Medically speaking the benefits of a blood transfusion may be debatable in any given case but when it's a life or death emergency I would not hesitate. In fact my previous life as a JW is a was the very last consideration.

F**k the Watchtower. (Sorry; had a few tonight ;-))

No need to beat around the bush, Francois. Just come right and say what you mean.
