...or so I used to think.

    What is worship?

Not sitting listening to WTB$ corporation propoganda which is more a sales seminar than worship.

Not giving talks, sermons or demonstrations designed to make you better sales persons in field misery for the benefit of your reputation when the elders jusde you.

Not constantly being hypnotized to believe I am not good enough and must do more or my imaginary friend in the sky will lovingly kill me SOON (terms and conditions apply and are subject to 'overlapping')

Not answering from a hi-lited piece of litter-trash at indoctrination sessions designed to make you better recruiters so the GB can have power and money.

If I were God I wouldn't consider 7.5million sheeple obeying 7 power trippers in Brooklyn worship to me.....idoliary, yes. Not worship.

.............an the list could continue until the meetings at the Kingdumb Hell are seen for the cold Godless austere propaganda indoctrination sessions they really are!

Good point Punk, I have often thought what goes on in the Kingdom Halls is not worship of God.

When is God EVER worshipped in the KH?

Worship of the FDS & GB yes, but not of God.

    @heartofaboy - Right on!

Even if one considers singing worship, then why are the songs not worshipful rather than droning trance inducing accolades for a nonsense concept.

'Ever Loyal' ALWAYS springs to mind. It starts with 'ever loyal to Jehovah' then after that bait, switches to being loyal to men and those taking the lead!

    Were the prayers ever worshipful?

I've brought this subject up myself that there is no worship at the meetings or assemblies. The answer I got was the same, it's the songs and prayers that are part of worship.

Well the songs are worse than ever and mostly agrandising the GB and obedience and the prayers are often the same format of asking for blessing on the GB. No worship in either for 99% of the time. For a God who demands exclusive devotion he sure must be pissed that the GB is higher up the devotional scale than His own Son Jesus!

So true. I attended the Memorial this year, and the one song that I recall sung every time on this ocassion (can't think what it's called at the moment...it'll come to me) has had the tune changed for the worse. Perhaps the Congregation were starting to enjoy singing it? In contrast, I can think of many hymns that are 'uplifting' and sung with passion.

@midwichcuckoo = one song that I recall sung every time on this ocassion (can't think what it's called at the moment...it'll come to me)

Don't worry, you don't need to bring back those awful memories.

The songs are another thread but I suspect they are hypnotic trance type drones. You mumble the words to the plinky plonky piano not taking much notice of the words.

However, the words sink in at a subliminal level. More non worshipful reinfocing brainwashing -

    "Minds must be cleansed" (Watchtower, June 1, 1953, p. 350 par. 24).

What you are actually doing is falling for a scam. The boasting sessions are using God's name to coerce people into worshiping the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger. Notably, they use the Bible to make it look like everything they are saying is pleasing to God, and that trying to correct their bad doctrines amounts to running ahead of God. Do that, and you are committing a sin that they refer to other scriptures to make look like you are doing evil. Of course, these things you are supposed to do are designed to consume your time and energy.

Oddly enough, I have learned more about the Bible as an apostate, even without going to church, than I ever did as an active witless. I know enough that they are pulling a classic scam--claiming you are worshiping Satan when you miss a boasting session, when God is mentioned in terms of using the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger to direct a work that you must do. They sometimes mention Jesus, but always in a secondary position as being someone that followed the Establishment perfectly. In reality, Jesus was only trying to wake people up from their religion. If Jesus were one of Jehovah's Witlesses today, I doubt he would be merely tracking the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger. Rather, he would be the most outspoken one to disregard the rule that you are required to abide by and teach bad teachings from the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger even if you could prove it wrong from their own Bible.

Once I woke up from being born-in dupe my whole life, I realized that they were the Pharisees.

I went to a few Mary Kay and Avon sales meetings a few years ago and felt like it was a parallel version of the meetings.

Just change the decor and substitute Jehovah for Mary Kay/Avon and the Bible/magazines for their sales brochures, and you have the meetings.

They even had demonstrations on how to sell door to door and to overcome objections!

It was surprising, to say the least.

Even when I was at my most indoctrinated I questioned whether the meetings were really worship. A bland song and sterile prayer just didn't convince me.

Why oh why didn't think it through??????
