Watchtower's view on gambling changed?

I just got off the phone with my mom and she told me my daughter had told her that the Society has recently relaxed its rules on gambling. She said something about some folks could be a card dealer and a JW. Has anyone heard anything in this regard?

My parents just got a two night comp from a Reno casino they love to frequent because of glorious brunch the casino has on the weekends. Mother implied that maybe my father had something to do with it (apparently even though my father is acting like an uber jw he still loves to play the slots). I have no doubt that my mother is also still playing the California Lotto. No point in pointing it out. I just love the irony.

The Watchtower uses their funds to buy stock in businesses . They aren't only gambling in the stock market they are gambling with donated money from people who don't know where it's going. There are legitmate ways to make money in bet placing, you just have to know what you are doing, just like the stock market.

Not in writing but I do know that elders have a way of massaging things...we saw 4 jws playing cards for money at a party for a group of jws. I was surprised and said something to an elder attending and he said it was okay if it was only for small amounts of money to make things interesting.....

There's no change in the gambling policy doctrine as Lady Luck is still outlawed. As far as working in a casino, I think its up to one's conscience so long as their specific duty doesn't involve actually dealing. It's kind of like someone who works at a corner store as a cashier, and the occasional customer comes in to play the lottery. The cashier only serves as a buffer between the State and the customer. Whereas in a casino as a dealer, one is actively participating in gambling. I guess other positions in the casino that wouldn't involve dealing, would be acceptable. I could be wrong as this isn't a question that comes up every day.

Petty gambling is a reality with some, including elders. It's a Don't Ask/Don't Tell sort of thing. Raffles, football pools, etc.
