I was only stating TRUE FACTS, PuffsRule, and it is always a delight to point out the blatant chauvinism of the WTBTS, especially to hardcore types like ole' HenryP here. I'm willing to bet money he had a lot of power in the Congregation - he's perfect for the job.

I'm just waiting to see what he says about it! He'll probably dodge all of my argument tho...

But anyway, it's not a problem. These are some of the things I saw when I was growing up, and nothing can change that fact, no matter how many Bible verses Mr. HenryP spouts. He can talk Dub lingo till he is blue in the face, but he won't change any of these HARD FACTS.

There are certain men in high positions in Bethel who truly believe that paying "bride price" is a good thing. Back around 1977 a CO gave a Sunday talk about the virtues of this practice, and recommended that all JWs practice it. The usual bullshitish Watchtower 'reasons' were given. I was quite irritated about this blatant nonsense, so after the meeting was over I confronted the CO and said that I disagreed strongly with the material. Without listening to what I had to say, he got irritated and said, "Hey! I'm only delivering the talk I was given!" He turned around and walked away. It was pretty obvious that he didn't agree with the material either. This further confirmed for me what I had long known -- that some WTS leaders would dearly love to go back to the days of the patriarchs, when the word of the oldest male in the family was law and they virtually held life & death power over the family.

SYN that was some powerful things you said. What you first posted was too sad to put into words.

AlanF, I am truly amazed at what was said by the Watchtower around the time I was born. I now believe if they thought they could get away with it, they would make women wear head covering all the time, and not just when praying in front of a male. And then after that became the rule, they could make all of the JWs turn off electricity to their houses. And then...

When I was in the BOrganization I saw some hectic, HECTIC stuff go down, and that was one of the worst things I can possibly imagine happening to a woman.

And STILL HenryP doesn't respond in kind. Perhaps he knows he's beaten? Sorry, I had to switch to my other handle as I hit my postcap.

Watch, he's going to say something about how that was an "isolated incident" and how we shouldn't let it affect our view of God's BOrganization, well I have news for you HenryP, this stuff happens ALL THE TIME, EVERYWHERE WHERE YOU FIND DUBS. Period.

I think you are making too much of my post. Your point of view is only as a Westerner, but you would have a different view if born and living in Africa. My comment was not chauvinistic. I did not say that I approved or disapproved the practice, only that the theme of the article is appropriate for those parts of the world where a dowry is customary.

I certainly would not like to be a woman that is raped or abused physically by her husband. I would instead like to be a man with that husband in one room alone and beat the hell out of him for hitting his wife. Although you made your point, I think you exaggerated with the 80-year old woman bit.

HenryP, I LIVE IN FRIGGIN SOUTH AFRICA. Don't tell me I'm lying either - how could I have access to a South African web server to store all my pictures on if I didn't? Do you want me to send you my South African telephone number so you can phone me at my desk right now????? *GRRRRRR* If you'd read ANY of my previous posts on the boards, where I mention numerous times I stay in Johannesburg, you would see I'm telling the Tr00f. I've seen so much bad stuff happening, and the 80 year old (OK, she was old, but not THAT old, maybe 60 or 70, but still much older than all of the Elders) woman was the least of my problems, really. Surely if you read more than half of my post you would understand what I am trying to get at.

HenryP, do you or do you not believe that the WTBTS is a COMPLETELY chauvinistic BOrganization? Please answer YES or NO. No gray areas are allowed for this topic, my friend. Sorry that I exploded like that, but someone who just assumes I've never seen any of that stuff happen is QUITE wrong.
