Apostates Shut the door of everlasting life in Men's Faces

I was discussing with an elder today, and as usual the conversation drifted towards apostates and their line of reasoning, He angrily looked into my eyes with the scriptures in his hand and told me:

    (1) That Apostates are destructive peddlers who shut the door of everlasting life on people as they are very sure they have no portion in there. He quoted Matt 23:13- 13 “Woe to YOU, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because YOU shut up the kingdom of the heavens before men; for YOU yourselves do not go in, neither do YOU permit those on their way in to go in.

He said this scripture rightly describes the activities of these peddlers, they have forfeited all they have learnt, they have lost hope on the bright future of everlasting life and they are going arround, looking for gullible ones who are seeking the kingdom with honest heart.

    (2) He said some of these apostates abandoned the wife of their youth, they ventured into a life of abhorrence and they yet still having the clout to prove innoncence by influencing people on internet forums with cunning words. He said under normal circumstance, shame shouldnt allow them to request any audience amongst people of integrity. But it is disgusting that in this filthy world we live in, some ignorant fellows still celebrate them.

He goes on and on, condemning all acts of apostasy and all JW dissents, mentioning how blood guilty they are. Infact, If He had the opportunity, He is ready to chop off the head of many here.

My question is, do you feel that your activities here are synonymous to shutting the door of everlasting life on innocent people?. I just want to know if your motives are pure for what you are doing and if your experience as an ex-JW justify your presence here. Just curious.

He said some of these apostates abandoned the wife of their youth,

I would venture to say, based on my experience, that far more elders than "apostates" are guilty of this.

While the elder speaks and I looked into his face, I told him to allow God fight for himself, He fired back at me, He said that God has assigned the GB to care for spiritual matters on earth, so they are representing the interests of the kingdom. He started looking at me suspiciously and asked if i am sympathising with enemies of the kingdom, I quickly changed the topic of the discussion.

our motives for what we are doing? what are we doing?

i think he mistakes us apostates for some religious organization. we are as heterogenous as it gets.

PS: good point you made about god fighting for himself.

The Watchtower society are guilty of shutting people out of the Kingdom of Heavens by their interpretation of the 144000! The encourage over 7 million peope to reject this prospect every year, by instructing them not to follow Christ's command to drink the wine and eat the bread.

First, I don't think I'm shutting the door on paradise for me or anyone else when I criticize the Society or its religion. I simply think they don't know what the h*ll they're talking about. Just as they don't think others know what they are talking about.

Second, influencing people with cunning words? Like facts, for example? Everyone has the right to make up their own mind. To do that, they need to know every side imaginable. After all, according to the Society and many religious believers, this is the most important decision of this or any other era. What religion you pick will determine how you'll spend your eternity, right? Who are they to deny people all the information they need to make the choice for themselves.

Note, all this comes from an atheist. (Me.)

I don't usually get all fiery and stuff on here, but shame on that elder for being a narrow minded fool. Even worse is the fact that most of them probably feel the same way.

Trying to reason with that elder is like trying to reason with an old phonographic recording by Rutherford while it is playing at your door.

The only difference is that the messages are playing in the elder's head rather than on a turntable.

As for shutting the door in men's faces, it's the WTS that does that.

The NT teaches that eternal life is a gift received by faith in Christ's finished work.

The WTS teaches that you have to qualify for it by an endless treadmill of works and leaves JWs constantly feeling guilty about how far they fall short.

My activities here consist mainly of chatting about various subjects with other who are also here.

My activities as an 'apostate' in my day-to-day life generally consist of working, raising a family, eating, sleeping, and exercising my basic human right to believe (or not) and worship (or not) in a way that makes sense for me and my family.

It sounds as though this elder has a serious loathing for 'apostates', which is what any high-control group works to instill in its followers. Many different religions and groups have apostates who are invariably viewed with suspicion, disdain, even hatred.

But apostates are not the real enemy to groups like Jehovah's Witnesses. The real enemy is information. People in high-control groups are trained to mistrust and even fear information that comes from outside sources. Most Jehovah's Witnesses will NEVER seek out information that is contrary to what they have been taught, even if it is a few mouse clicks away on the internet. But some apostates are willing to be the messenger, the bringer of information.

In 1633 Pope Urban VIII charged Galileo with heresy for his theory of heliocentrism too, because it was in direct contradiction with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, that the earth was the centre of the universe.

300 years later, Pope Pius XII described Galileo as a hero of research. And in 1992 Pope John Paul II "expressed regret" for the way the church handled Galileo way back when.

Time is the expositor of all false prophets and the avenger of all accused of heresy.
