It is quite possible that she knows she is known by some neighbors as a JW and she wants JWs to be perceived as "caring about the neighbors and people, etc." For all you know, she might have called her elders and asked them how she should handle this and they may have told her to make an appearance.
While it is possible she may have a small crack in her armor, I do think it is really all about not wanting to be viewed in a negative light by all the neighbors. She doesn't want people to say "wow, that JW over there doesn't like us, etc." or words to that effect because it would make the religion look bad. It's all about appearances with JWs.

I see what you're saying LHG. But, while she does live in the area, she nor her family are known by my neighbors. She and the kids came expressly at my invitation. I don't think she's anywhere near exiting the borg. But I'm happy she allowed the kids to come and that she visited with us as well.
