I could relate to what Georgio Smith was saying in the teasers and would be interested to see if it is cathartic when it comes out in full. It also seems promising for sharing with non jw family.

bumping because from what I can see Gregorio Smith, the guy who is making this documentary grew up a witness, after leaving he went to school, he set up his own film production co - smithkraft productions -plus he has already won an award.

I was born in 1974 in Brooklyn, NY to an American father and a Panamanian mother who became a JW months before I was born. My mother was tyrannically devout and all too readily subordinated her judgment, common-sense, and basic maternal instincts to the administrations of the WTBTS.
The elders in our congregation wielded a particularly powerful influence. From the spiritual to the secular everything was subjected to their intrusive judgment (including our haircuts!). My siblings and I were force-fed JW dogma ad nauseam and we were beaten severely whenever we behaved in a 'worldly' (normal) manner.
No childhood. Few precious memories. Years of wasted potential. A dysfunctional family. A father driven to an early grave. And an irretrievably brainwashed mother that hasn’t been a 'mom' in decades.

Per the official synopsis, TRUTH BE TOLD is not an indictment of religion but rather a retrospective. The purpose of the movie is to provide a comprehensive forum for anyone that has story to share - to start a new conversation intended to heal, not hurt. And while the ultimate product may not be even-handed, it will be honest.
