Yep... world events don't seem to really affect them. After the Japan earthquake, I brought up how upsetting it was and the pioneer I studied with said "I don't really have that kind of compassion" and "It's in Jehovah's hands."

Incredible that someone who claims to be God's spokesperson is devoid of sympathy for human loss and suffering.

Yeah... 9/11 was nothing more than a ruse from Satan to get them excited about The End them leave them in disappointment when it wasn't on Jehovah's timetable...

This anniversary especially, is an in their face reminder of a time when so many JW's hoped this act of terrorism would lead to a war that would kick-off the long awaited Great Tribulaton.

I remember reading several years ago about the reaction to 9/11 at Bethel, where they had a clear view of the destruction of the Trade Center from their strategic location at the east end of the Brooklyn Bridge, where the stream of refugees walked past as they fled lower Manhattan. Could anybody here provide a link an article discussing this, or give a first-person account of the reaction at Watchtower headquarters?

I think they view such tributes as patriotic and worship of the dead. We know death does not affect them the same way it affects us---and they feel no real connection to those outside the KH---and they feel no connection to their country. If they DID acknowledge it---outside a mention for FS, like they do Christmas--I would be shocked. They are acting exactly as expected.

It's scary to think NC . . . if we were still JW's . . . we would probably be thinking the same way.

Now it sends a shiver up my spine.

Freedom of the mind is a precious thing.

Few years ago we had a tornado hit our town. About a doz. homes were destoryed. One was a sister in our hall. I got a call from the Ass. CO for our area about the disaster. He asked what happen. I told him about a doz. homes were destoryed and one was a sisters home. He didn't find it note worthy to report it to the WT because of only one sisters home and the rest was worldly people homes. I told him they are poeple to and need our help. He told me they don't matter only the friends matter. This is the attitude of the WT cult. If they can't use the story to show the outside world how they help their members they don't care. Their whole thinking is way off base. Totally ADD

far worse things than 9/11 have happened and are not remembered. that's normal if you or close family/friends were not affected by the events.

i don't understand patriotic feelings, but i also don't understand why and what one should pray about on that occasion.

They reacted almost exactly the same way to the assasination of JFK - for about a week, it was thought to be the start of the tribulation. A minor frenzy was noted when Oswald was shot. After that, practically all of them completely forgot about it and the subject never came up again. They had more magazines to sell, after all.
