I say NO. Family is an overworked word, and it certainly doesn't pertain to being an xJW. WT, and, by extension, JW's, is a *group*. In my opinion they're just what they say they are, a nonprofit *corporation* (root word means "body" but not "family"). JW's are what WT says they are, non-members of the corporation, simply "publishers" for the WT nonprofit corporation.

I have a family. I was once associated with a nonprofit corporation known as Watchtower. Watchtower said I was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. There were other JW's for whom I felt an "affinity" just as there are now a number of xJW's for whom I feel an affinity. At the same time there are a number in each group for whom I feel no affinity at all.

I find it best to keep my definitions straight, especially in light of my WT/JW experience.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I would say yes, without a doubt.

I still mourn for the lost friendships and close ties I had in the Organization. Although I knew theoretically what the outcome would be if I left, I still held out hope that my friendships with those left behind would remain. How very wrong I was. I was such a fool to even think for a moment that the friendships weren't conditional on me being a good JW (no questioning, no telling, no nothing).

Here on these forums and on the outside I have met many fine people who put the JW definition of Christian and Good Samaritan to shame.

Yes, I do view the ex-jw as part of my family. And there are a few who are as close to being my kids as if I'd given birth to them.

Yes. As a family there may be disagreements, but still care about one another.

I do know what you're sayin' and felin' greybeard and it's nice of you to say so. I do like the idea of a bond or brotherhood with others in our situation but realistically speaking, I need to actually meet the person face to face before I can honestly say I love them or think of them as family. It would be too easy for me to project warm feelings onto others only to find out they may have been misguided or one sided. (been there- done that) I must say however, I really like the spirit of your post !
