What Was The BEST Thing About Being A Jehovah's Witness?

I liked feeling as though I was part of a Brotherhood™ that would live to see something amazing - that JWs were specially chosen and were doing Jehovah's work on earth. It sucked the big one when I realized it was all based on bull$h!t.

Goodie night was great - and I daresay that I still make awesome treats, just not as frequently as then. But we could do exJW goodie nights, without having the Book Study™ first!! That would be fantastic!!

Actually, to be completely honest, I learned enough about public speaking from the Theocratic School™ and going Door-to-Door™ to give really effective presentations at school and at work. That's probably the best thing I took away from being a JW - it's a skill that's served me well.

There are a few good things, other than living in an illusion.

As witnesses we developed superior sales skills.

And for some, it helped overcome drinking, drug addiction, and clean up their life in general.

See! Angel face has a real good point!

I know some people that were real bad people and being a JW helped them be not sooo bad. They were always getting reproved or df'd but they weren't killing people anymore.

Knowing the end would come soon. Not having to worry about the future. When you came home from Field Service and had witnessed to somebody having that warm feeling inside that you done something good. Knowing the brothers were honest. The brotherhood. I suppose the best thing was knowing you were keeping your integrity toward Jehovah amidst the wicked system we live in.

Yea, I still apply stuff I learned in TMS to a degree. Wasn't into it at the time but in hindsight it was like Toastmasters (for God)

It helped some in my family overcome their addiction problems; it was their AA, for better or worse and it gave them hope.

But the best thing about being a witness was that when you leave, you appreciate a lot of things people seem to take for granted such as freedom of thought, belief and speech, among other things. You understand much of what drives people to believe as they do and their reasons why. Leaving forces you to really examine your own viewpoints and opinions and you have to dig down into your own motivations to understand why and how to remove the "roots" as it were. It made me more aware of myself and those around me. At least that's what it was for me; your mileage may differ.

I still believe everlasting life is possible and I also believe the dead can return.

But as these might be possible, they won't happen the way they say, as sure as I can be.

I would not have dreamed about everlasting life ever being a possibility if not for Jehovah's Witnesses.

Free Bible study was the best thing about being a JW.
