The WT has never retracted anything, why would they start now?

Also, the out is, they were just quoting the bible, if others can't deal with that, they can suck it as far as the WT is considered.

Thank you for all your comments. I agree that it is almost unthinkable that the Watchtower Society would ever print a retraction based on complaints or a petition. That would imply that they have journalistic standards. I think a petition could still be useful to advertise this issue and show how stubborn the Watchtower Society is. It could even be mentioned in the news. There's also a small chance that they could be forced to issue some kind of statement, letter or retraction as the result of legal prosecution in some country. If so, a petition could be seen as a victory, even if it isn't the direct cause of that statement.

I don't know if there is enough interest to make this worthwhile, so I'm primarily interested in hearing people's thoughts on this.

DT I personally think that what you suggest is a very mature approach. In cases of dispute or disagreement, it is often suggested that your first approach would be to try and remedy the situation with the perpertrator.

You have hit on a very good point about metal diseases not being contagious. It is possible to argue that a mental condition can cause others to be affected but not a disease. This also shows that their own NWT of this scripture is wrong.

I say they should retract the whole doctrine that those who leave the religion are "worthy of destruction". How many leave the religion because of the way they are treated or because of a doctrine that blatantly contradicts their own Bible? And they use that lame "running ahead of Jehovah" excuse--not when the contradictions are that blatant.

All I can think of is this George Orwell quote from 1984 regaring the JW masses...

"until they become conscious they well never rebel, and after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious."
