Victoria, Australia: WTBTS and GB of JWs have shown themselves to be "GUILTY" respecting previous noncompliance with “Working With Children” Laws

    Borg attorneys aren't stupid. My guess is they have been removing known pedophiles either from their position as elders in Victoria or physically moving them out of the state (or is it province?) of Victoria prior to sending this letter to the Victorian congregations. They would never allow these background checks to go forward if they knew some pedos would turn up. (of course, there could be pedos that the Borg is unaware of)

    Thanks for the update Barbara.

    @ Barbara Anderson..."Perhaps I should have waited on posting..."

    No! This is such a hot topic, any information you can get, we want it. Some of the details can wait.

    @ Mad Sweeney..."My guess is they have been removing known pedophiles either from their position as elders in Victoria or physically moving them out of the state..."

    Wasn't a higher up (director?) recently moved from the Australian branch to Poland? I seem to remember reading it here a week or two ago. I wondered at the time if the background check might be the reason. I guess it could have been for a lot of reasons, but it seems very coincidental.

    @ScenicViewer:

    That's an interesting thought. Mainly that they didn't want to comply because they knew they had an embarassingly large number of pedophiles among the elders, and started to purge them once the law suit was filed, just got completed with the purge, and now are rushing to comply.

    Wouldn't that be noticed by someone? There's got to be someone JWN members, also elders, in Victoria that would know whether this was going on... or perhaps one elder that has a copy of the letter :)

    Thanks for the updates Barbara, I am wondering whether the situation in the UK is worth investigating?

    Sending such a letter would prove that orders come from the WTBTs and Governing Body. A silly move. What woke them up? This is a massive change in strategy. Was there a related ruling? This indicates a heirarchal religion. The echoes of the Roman Catholic Church are present.

    I was reading a book about a famous African in Britain during abolition. In his travels, he preached to a Roman Catholic priest. The priest was appalled that anyone would read a Bible. The Church felt ignorant people needed all the wisdom of the accumulated Church Fathers to interpret scripture. Another group believes that only through their literature can one understand their Bible.

    @Band on the Run, who said, "This indicates a heirarchal religion....The Church felt ignorant people needed all the wisdom of the accumulated Church Fathers to interpret scripture. Another group believes that only through their literature can one understand their Bible."

    So many similarities between the WTS and a religion it strongly condemns.

    "The Watch Tower Society, the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, the Faithful and Discreet Slave, and the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses, last week issued a "special" letter to ALL Bodies of Elders in the State of Victoria instructing them to immediately apply for their Working with Children licenses and to comply with child protection laws. The letter includes instructions that the contents are not to be made public or shared with members of the congregation."

    The FDS continues to control every aspect of an individual Congregation's and elder's existence....down to this letter. Of course, the FDS doesn't want it to "seem" like they are control freaks, and had instructions that the contents are not to be made public or shared with members of the congregation.

    Hmmmmm. Just like elders aren't supposed to tape record elder school meetings. Why? Becuase the FDS doesn't want to be held legally responsible for what it instructs the elders to do.

    So....the elders are to destroy this letter. The FDS can't be held legally responsible? The FDS makes it all look like it was the individual elder's responsibility to get licensed. The FDS is about to allow the elders to take the beating. It's a loving arrangement.
