Thanks for the link on the quasicrystals BTS, fascinating. Worth a search on Google images

BTS -- wouldnt count out cold fusion. but i think it is unlikely. wouldnt count out nickel fusion, but it is even less likely.
But what we have here is a guy with a black box. nobody knows what happends inside the box because nobody is allowed to see it and rossi wont tell. but he says it perform something which would be the greatest discovery in science the past 100 years. he just wont tell us how.
And its the same story in terms of demonstrating it actually works: the demonstration relies on us trusting rossi on how much steam is produced.
The above point cant be stressed enough. the fact it would be so easy to condense the steam and get an accurate caliometric reading makes this equivalent to having a guy tell us he can read every persons mind, he just refuse to read anyone else than his brother Danny and only on the subject of his favority color. it just aint that convincing.
The exceptional claim should make us sceptic, but the subsequent actions is what convince me this is bunk (Rossis history is just icing on the cake). The only thing we can wonder about is how this will play out: laboratory fire destroy all prototypes and detail. Evil agents preasure rossi into not releasing. Patent details mean he cant release...

Citation needed? Really?
How about the entire Space Station? The billions spent on this dead end are the result of hype in Congress. Congress wisely turned down funding for a supercollider in Texas, some years ago, because they didn't buy into the 'fundamental science' hype.
And then we have endless hype for whatever flu is supposedly current and just about to start a pandemic and needs development. Swine? Bird? What is this time, Wombat flu? Seen any pandemics lately? Think Big Pharma doesn't BS about this?
Read about research hyped up for spending billions for sofisticated devices to detect drugs or explosives? Instead of cheap trained mongrel dogs? Really?
Getting research Cash $$$$ belongs to the field of marketing and sales, not science. If you don't think those fields include hype and exaggeration, you need to get out of the lab more often.

metatron: Just two questions: (a) do you think it work (b) so how about a bet?

"nickel fusion"? This is my point.. there is enough observation of something taking place, something important, in regard to 'cold fusion'. And more scientists seem to agree...
Even if Rossi fails to produce a practical device, we need to look at this subject further - and get government agencies to fund more research.
Eugene Mallove created a controversy by exposing the fraud at MIT (!!) in fudging the negative results on 'Cold Fusion', years ago. There's more going on here than meets the (skeptics) eye.

The bottom line of this remains what i pointed out the first time you brought it up and to my record something you have never addressed:
Why does he refuse to condence the steam and get a proper tamper-proof measurement on the production of energy?
It is amazing the man is so happy to tour around and make demonstrations, he just insist on making the demonstrations in a way which make them easy to fake. i wonder why.

Apparently NASA is dispatching observers for Piantelli's LENR.
My take is that there is something real going on here.

BTS: From the same blog, same author:
NASA Won’t Confirm Relationship With Ross

E-Cat Test Demonstrates Energy Loss
http://blog.newenergytimes.com/2011/10/08/e-cat-test-demonstrates-energy-loss/
I want to say it again: We know what amount of energy goes in. We do not know what amount of energy comes out because Rossi does his best to make sure that information is not avaliable to us.

Even if this is real, it has a long way to go before it would be practical, because of the concept of exergy and Carnot efficiency. It is difficult to extract useful energy from a thermal gradient of 5 degrees. The theoretical maximum efficiency (1-Tc/Th) of a heat engine with such a small difference between thermal reserviors would be about .01%. You would have to have massive quantities of reactants and have a massive mass flow rate of steam to get anything useful at that efficiency.
That blog calculates the absolute energy change of steam for 5 degrees with that mass flow rate and in absolute terms it sounds like a lot, but thermodynamics dictates the amount of useful work you can actually get for that temperature difference is very very small.

In other words, even though technically the reactor produced 3500 watts of net energy, you would be lucky to harvest enough energy to power a single 40 watt light bulb.
