Well, Well....I know that you have your turkeys, and your pumpkin, or pecan pies, and I know that you had your family over and all.

But, you really aren't celebrating Thanksgiving, are you?

Thanksgiving is considered a national holiday in the US and I believe so in Canada. Not allowed by the WTS.

*** sj (School Brochure) p. 21 Holidays and Celebrations ***National Holidays

Other holidays are somewhat different in nature. These are not so universally celebrated, but may be unique to a particular country. For example, there may be national days of thanksgiving. In some places there may also be a certain day set aside to memorialize a nation’s war dead, or a day to remember the birth of a country or certain prominent presidents, rulers or national heroes.

Jehovah’s Witnesses also respectfully refrain from participating in such national holidays. Though we respect the authorities in whatever country we may reside, for conscientious reasons we do not give them what we view as worshipful honors. We remain neutral toward all such celebrations. This is in keeping with Jesus’ words regarding his followers: “They are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world.”—John 17:16.

I have never seen it in writing that celebrating Thanksgiving in the US or Canada is a df'ing offense. The WTS sentiments about Thanksgiving have not changed since that brochure in writing anyway. I well aware of how individual jws make their own rules about it. I also was not aware that what was said there only applied to school-age jws.

Well, the Society may not be serving Turkey tonight at the Bethel tables. I know that they will adhere to the letter of the law for this one as well.

But, hey....as Joshua said, "Me and my household, shall have a Thanksgiving dinner"(QB translation)

This was one of those "don't ask, don't tell" gray areas. My mother always had family over & I always took my family out for Thanksgiving.

I'm celebrating with you in spirit, granny, and we will enjoy a sumptious turkey as soon as I can catch it.
