I just saw this story ...

    http://www.cnn.com/2011/10/17/us/occupy-protests/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

... all I could think of was. 1.) They are actually in agreement of the leader of Iran. 2.) I don't know if I would take any advice from people who thought hiking in Iraq was a good idea. I mean, I dream of hiking national parks, maybe a mountian or two, but Iraq (as in a place at war, unstable, etc.) is not something I consider a good choice. Which explains a lot about their endorsement.

They were in Kurdistan (Northern Iraq)...totally different world. Check this out: http://www.americanvillage.info/

Where they went wrong was in arrogantly dismissing the advice of their Kurdish guides who told them to not stray too far because the Iranians cross the border all the time.

But I too do not see your link between the article and his supporting Iran.

I guess I am the only one who watched the news, in that the President of Iran expressed his support of the Occupy movement. I know we did not follow politics as Witnesses, but come on people.

Oh please! Don't be too impressed with yourself; watching the news isn't following politics. In fact people who believe that 'watching the news is following politics' were routinely made fun of in my undergrad political science classes.

But if that is where you get your political information, it explains why you didn't know the vast difference between Kurdistan and the rest of Iraq, which existed even when the hikers were arrested.

Additionally, your article (and the news soundbite) doesn't show they 'they are in agreement' with Ahmadinejad, who is Iran's political figurehead but not its "leader." It shows that HE is in agreement with them.

Perhaps they learned some things in their 26 months or so while in Iran... that they didn't learn in their 26 or so years here, dear F2BM (peace to you!)? Seems to me there's quite a few vets who served in Iraq/Afghanistan participating in the "occupations." What do they know that "we" don't? I dunno, but I would be reluctant to say "nothing." My father's recount to us of what was occuring in Vietnam (for which he did 3 tours) was a LOT different than what a lot of the media was telling "us" at the time. We didn't need Life magazine to put a photo of a burning child on its cover to tell us that all wasn't cracked up to be what "they" wanted us to think it was.

(But I do admit, as I said to my dear hubby last evening, that it seems that whatever "protest/occupation" is going on lately, the "dred-heads" seem to be in the thick of things. From occupying trees... to occupy public spaces/parks... you can pretty much count on seeing them there. And among the most vocal. What's up with that?).

Either way, I'm personally kind of glad to know that we haven't apathized into a country where people CAN'T (or no longer) publicly demonstrate as to disagreements of such proportion (or smaller, in fact). I mean, isn't that one of the institutions this country was built on? I don't know if one has to be right to protest - I think it's more important that one CAN protest... if one feels there is a need to. Even if others disagree with that need... which will always happen. Then again, maybe it's because I was a child of the 60s... when protesting was not only a frequent occurrence... but even a way of life. Ah, for the good old days!

    Ennywho...

Peace (and I mean that in my usual way, as well as the ways meant in my youth)!

    SA, on her own...

Um ... I do hate Iran. I do not see this as wrong.

I have to reedit and revisit this "Free hates Iran" comment. As it was so out of left field and completely stupid. WTF! That was so lame man, so lame. That is your comment? That was the best you can do? I do hate Iran, but it is because of their Muslim controled government. There, not hidding anything. Wow! You really showed me ... maybe you should go in to professional debate. LOL
