I have a large complex cyst on my ovary . The Doctor I saw today said I am not a candidate for the laparscopic surgery because of previous scar tissue . So I will have open abdominal surgery ......really scared .

So any of you JWN ladies that have been through this want to lend some words of wisdom my way ,I would appreciate it . So far all the cancerous screening tests have come back normal ,but they wouldn't know for sure until it is out . I am asking for minimal organ removal ...I hope that is the right decision .

Urk!! Do you have family - good family - nearby to help you???
Surgery procedures have advanced greatly in the last 10 years - you'll probably be fine through the surgery...
Do you have someone to help you, after the surgery...??
Please keep us posted....

Are you scared about the cyst, or the surgery/recovery time?
Do you have support at home for afterward?
C-sections are open abdominal surgery. I've had two. You just need to be able to rest afterward, and give yourself time to heal. But it doesn't take very long to be up on your feet and doing your thing. Just have to be careful for a little while. The downside to your surgery is that you have no new baby to make it worth it... the uspide is that you have no new baby to keep you from your rest/recovery ;)
If it helps, I had no problems with either of mine... longer recovery with the second, but I didn't rest like I was supposed to, the second time around. Of course, if you already have scar tissue, I'm guessing you've done something like this before as well. Did you have complications then?
Thinking of you.
Peace and strength,
Tammy

I've had Gyn surgery and the most important thing to remember is to not overdo it. Follow your doctors orders and don't lift anything heavy. I know as a mother you might be tempted to just lift something "one time" but take care of yourself now or there can be problems later.

minimal organ removal
I've not had that surgery myself, but have had 4 others. I do have friends (and my mother) who have had hysterectomy or ovaries removed.
Keeping your ovaries (or at least one) is a good thing if you can. Those hormones are important to your health.
It is scary, the recovery for that surgery is more difficult than some because of the abdominal muscles, but just takes patience, and of course you will need help for the first few weeks.
I am looking forward to foot surgery myself (NOT), but it's no threat of the big C, so a different matter.
will be thinking of you ((((hug))))

I had all of my children (3) by c-section ,the old fashion kind . So I know the pain I am in store for . I just abhor going under ,it feels like I am going to die .
I have three part-time jobs with no paid leave so that weighs on my mind . My husband is great and will be a help to me .I have a couple of friends that have already volunteered to help out too .
It;s just the whole process of having your insides removed ,the uncertainty as to what they will find ,and the chance it could end up a complete hysterectomy (something I am dead set against ) I hate feeling like I have no control over what will happen once I am out .
This past month I have had alot of pain . During the CT scan I had an allergic reaction to the contrast dye ,they had to rush me back to ER and give me benydril .
I wonder how others have felt after having an ovary removed ? Did you have mood swings ? Or anything I should be aware of ...

I had this type of operation, abdominal entry. It did take 6 weeks at home to recover before going back to work. Procedures are more sophisticated today. I was a little tired for about a year. But no other problems. No cancer; still have one ovary so did not go into early menopause. I felt much, much better afterwards.
