Nice thread tal . . . nice theme.
So often we focus on what makes us different . . . rather than what we have in common . . . but music does that . . . especially this music.
I love both Johnnies . . . legends of music . . . and that which makes us all the same.

I was fortunate enough to see John Lennon several times in New York. The Martin Scorcese biopic of George Harrison that recently aired on HBO ( the best Beatle documentary I have ever seen) had many fans thinking of what a vital presence John would be at Occupy Wall Street. His message was simple - imagine and give peace a chance. Even when he hung out with left wing radicals, he never adopted a fifteen point plan. I saw him at an antiwar demonstration and in concert at a benefit for mentally challenged children. He could play a unique role b/c of his fame and good heart.
I participated in his Memorial Service in Central Park. His murder was simply horrid. People cried so hard, men and women. He adored NYC, in particular, and Americans. He could be an angel or a demon. People tend to see a cartoon of John Lennon today that is too sanctified. John would write an anthem for everyone being screwed by the system. It would be a mega hit. Whenever I am in the park and not in a rush, I pass Strawberry Fields to pay my respects (the exit is a major exit to get around the city). I make an effort to be there on his birthday and death date with flowers to honor what he meant to me. Normal people pass by, unaware of Strawberry Field or the significance of the day). Nonfans faces change. Many regular people tear up.
I miss his presence so much.
I used to spy the Dakota and ask the doormen if he were in town b/c I did not want to waste my time if he were not. People were camped out with lawn chairs and big thermal food containers. As much as I wanted a personal autograph, I feared he might be in a bad mood and ruin my memories.
I miss him so, so much. The man could span so many worlds. Thanks for the reminder.

Bots ... it is a mix of the bard, taleisin, and FLW's vision, and also the name of Merlin in MZB's famous book "The Mists of Avalon" ... I love the idea of being an benevolent shape-shifter ...
