She's beautiful! Looks exactly like the Staffie my friend owned 10 years ago. We're so soppy with adopting animals that if we didn't already have one larger-than-life character of a terrier cross who doesn't like dogs who are bigger than him, then I'd make Daddatron drive to wherever you are to come pick her up. Is there a Dog's Trust near you, or a shelter that transfers to the Dog's Trust if they themselves can't rehome?

    What White Dove said...

I ended up with a bull mastiff-german shepherd mix - BIG, strong dog!!! We tried EVERYTHING with him - even the spiked "pinch" collar - nothing worked...

Unfortunately, he died before we found out about chest harnesses - which probably would have saved his life....

A chest harness enables you to pull on the dog's area of greatest power - the chest and front legs. If you need MAJOR control, you can even grab the top strap of the harness and LIFT the dog's front legs off of the ground - like a suitcase - thereby rendering the dog immobile...

I wish that you could keep her... She's clearly bonded with your child - that's the kind of dog that could save your life, someday...

BUT - she will DEFINITELY need an owner who is good with large dogs...

Ah, well - my little Sheeba is still around, even though she's 15 years old... If you weren't so far away, I'd take her off of your hands WHEN Sheeba passes on...

I have DEFINITELY had experience with large dogs... Mine weighed 120 pounds - outweighed ME at the time... That dog was SO big and tough, he once dragged BOTH my husband and I while we were hanging onto the leash...

But with a chest harness, he would have been MUCH more manageable...

    I miss that big lunk...

If you didn't sound so dead-set against keeping her, I'd say that she showed up specifically to be with you and your family...

    I re-read the posts...

It sounds like she was caged and used as a "puppy-mill"...

Thanks for all your comments... I phoned the dog warden as because she was a stray she would have to go to the pound for seven days and then if space was found onto a sanctuary... If not..... Well that doesn't bear thinking about. Well Carrot phoned me to say that the family that were combing the streets with us last night phoned to see if we still had her. Carrot said yes and the woman said her cousin wants to rehome her. They came round and ''dog'' fell in love with this woman... Hugging, kissing, licking her. This woman is an experienced bull terrier owner and wanted one for a companion as she adores that breed of dog.

Dog warden isn't coming now thank goodness! One less dog in the pounds! Yey!

Dog trots off really happy, tail going ten to the dozen down the drive, she didn't even look back at me! Charming being as I allowed her on the bed and furniture! Lol!

The couple are going to keep in touch so I will know how she is.

    Heres to a happy rescue!

    Peace

I just wanted to add one thing to this:

I live on a 1/2 mile long city green belt with a park, a stream and several ponds. We get an inordinate amount of abandoned dogs and cats here because people apparantly think this is a good place to dump off their unwanted animals. This is how we got our kitty-kat.

These idiots should be taking their animals to the pound themselves instead of leaving them in the middle of nowhere with no food or home. Just because the park is pretty does not mean a domestic pet can survive there or be compatible with the local populations.

As a second rant - if you capture one of these abandoned pets, and call the animal control - in my city (and I suspect many others) you will be charged a fee (about $35.00 IIRC) for doing the right thing.

JW that is really sad! People can surrender their dogs over to sanctuary's/shelters so why dump them?

Plus a fee that's disgusting! That's probably why people dump their pets... The heartache these animals must go through... Tragic!

Exactly my point. I complained to the city pound manager about this, and got told that they had to fund the pound somehow, and that the people who dump the animals were not responsible enough to pay.

Leaving it up to innocent citizens (like me) who find their dogs and cats.

Happy, happy, ending --- so glad she found you out there. I cannot believe how people (losers) treat animals.
