This morning as I was driving back home from putting rug rat #2 in pre-school, I saw one middle-school boy throw another kid into some thorny bushes at our local bus stop. The kid sailed through the air and landed face down. I stopped to see what had gone down. The bully denied it all, and said that the two were just playing. The other kid didn't come up for a few minutes, and then agreed that the two were playing. That wasn't playing! No one would give me a name, so I waited for the school bus. There was no grown up parent at the bus stop, either. I told the bus driver. His aide, a high school looking kid with a colored guard, retrieved the bully from the back of the bus. You'd think the bus would be quiet, as some serious stuff was going down. Nope. The whole bus was completely out of control. Everyone but two girls in the front seat were standing, screaming, hooting, and hollering. The bus driver got the names and said he'd report it. But, we couldn't even hear ourselves talk. The schools are having to be real strict here due to bullying. We had one group of kids try to set fire to another kid! Brought the stuff to schol to set him on fire! So, when I went back to my car, over half the bus was hanging out the window yelling, "Cunt", "Bitch", "Mother Fucker", etc. at me I called the school to report that too. The school, public, said that they had fine mannered kids! I said that I saw a cross section of 80% of their kids - were terrible. I told the woman that I'd not let my enemy's kids on that bus... and that was just an small picture of what goes on in the bathrooms, locker rooms, and cafeteria. I realize that this is middle school. But, my eyes were completely opened. An old friend of mine had to put her kid into private school becuase he was bullied in the 6th grade. He is a big kid and a football player. But, because he's rather quiet, the kids were relentless. He was too sick to go to school. I'm considering sending my #1 rug rat to private next year for the 6th grade, and I'm also going to try super hard to get into the local Charter School. They are supposed to be very strict. There, the bus driver is blamed if the kids mess up. The kids can't even chew gum, have assigned seating, etc. on the Charter bus. Charter is free, and Private is $7k a year. I'll find the money if I have to. Who can concentrate on school, when this type of stuff goes on. And, we're talking a good area. Not many lower income people here, and not in my neighborhood for sure. Skeeter

Yes, the parents are also out of control. I think that you get better parents and kids in a Charter School or Private School.

Case in point - a family of 4 moved in to my neighborhood. Single mom, twin girls of 7, and teenaged boy of 13. The single mom is a "hot blond" in her 30s, and has a high powered bank job. She tries to get another mom to go out on the town with her. She goes out partying every Wendesday and Thursday night, and also over the weekend. The teenaged boy takes care of the twins after school AND during her partying. The teenaged boy is wild. He was caught throwing trash in the spa and pool. He took the filters out of the pool, ruined the pumps to the tune of many thousands of dollars. The entire pool had to be closed, drained, and cleaned. I heard that they also caught him playing with his wanker in the clubhouse bathroom. Now, the mom had to ship the son back to the father. Think she'd wise up and spend more time at home? Nope! She's looking for a babysitter.

    Geez!

Does anyone really think that the injunction against schooling arose from watching this kind of things? What kind of conclusions would we reach if we spoke about Singaporean, South Korean, Chinese or Finnish schoolchildren?

This is recent. School, worldly or not, was not like that not so many years ago. Long before the Watchtower disapproved of schooling.

Regarding the comment about poverty, I've been to schools in a very poor Third World Country where children drop out because they can't afford ONE notebook (let alone shoes), and they don't behave like that. Have you ever heard about sponsorship programs? You can keep a child in school if you give five dollars a month.

The Watchtower does not want you to mix with other children because you could notice you're in a cult. That is it.

I homeschooled mine for the same reasons.

The kids are out of control and the adults are too wimpy to handle it, both parents and school administrators.

That teenage boy was acting out for attention he wasn't getting from his partying mother.

    I recognized that right away.

He wanted and needed his mom but she wasn't there for him.

DGP - very well noted that being poor isn't any excuse for not wanting an education.

    so.....

Trouble finds me today. What does the Libra Horiscope say?

Just now, I walked to the bus stop to pick up #1. I walked by our clubhouse parking lot. There was a car with 4 teenaged girls in it. The girl in the backseat had her window down. The girl next to her was reaching over to light something that wasn't a cigarette, if you know what I mean. I couldn't smell what it was, as I was upwind in a strong breeze. Anyway, I walked right over to the girl's car. They didn't notice me until I was 5 feet away. I said, "I hope you are not doing anything illegal, because if you are I'm going to have to call the cops." Well, the car turned on and left the scene VERY fast.

Good for you skeeter 1!! It helps when all adults make the effort to remind kids how to behave respectfully.

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert
