Do any remember the stories from Missionaries in the Caribbean
I heard some tall tales told. Probably the same stories, but relocated to the Pacific.
They weren't all myths of course. The talking snake story in the 1967 Yearbook must have been true or they would have published it.
marking thanks
I saw an add on a bus the other day for the new smurf movie and wondered how many JWs will take their kids
totally unaware of the 80s hyper smurf phobia
With about 2.5 million jws in the early 80s that means almost 5 million have come in since then that probably have no idea!

That thread on the talking snake was so funny! You know...say this 'experience' had some grain of truth to it. The brother didn't actaully hear the snake talk...and it is more reasonable to believe it was an act--it is called throwing your voice.
I loved the goat-boy experience. I haven't laughed that hard in quite a while.
No wonder the "Keep Yourself in God's Love" book had a subheading that went something like, "When Stories of Demons Abound". Maybe this is to prevent the spread of ridiculous urban legends that grow in the telling.
In many of these stories, demons would scream at people not to say God's name, or have anything to do with the Witnesses. That never made sense to me--if an evil being told me to do something, would I not do the exact opposite? Or say I was reading a work of fiction, and that invited the demons in my home and freaky stuff started happening...would that allure me into inviting them to say, or would I not take immediate action to get rid of them and make sure they never came back? It would seem the demons in these ubran legends did more in their 'attacks' to draw people to the Witnesses. Demons are supposed to be SMARTER than humans, with millennia of observation of humans. Why would they be so stupid?
I made a video about this subject a while back and thought you might enjoy:

"Last year, I watched Harry Potter for the first time. I couldn't believe how innocuous it was--this was what they were all afraid of? I mean I thought it was rather dull, but was it abounding in evil? ..." [Londo111]
Hey, Londo, welcome to the board!!!
Regarding the Watchtower Corporation's scare tactics, I have to laugh - Ah, HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!
Just before I left - way back in the early 80's - the Watchtower Corporation began "demonizing" music videos. MTV was HUGE at the time; supposedly there was one video being shown regularly on MTV that was absolutely "DEMONIC"...
In the video, some chick goes to a rock concert AGAINST her totally square, out-of-touch parents' advice. While she's there, she gets mesmerized by the music, and the lead guitarist "zaps" her with his guitar [I guess it supposedly "steals her soul"...]
Next thing you know, she's trapped in two-dimensional hell as a two-storey-high illustration on a billboard advertising the rock band's next concert....
At the time I heard the elders screeching about this demonic video, I was very impressed - I figured it MUST have been a very effective video, really SPOOKY, to have gotten the Gov.Bod's undies in a knot....
Then, shortly after I left, I saw the dammed video... Cheesy, cheesy, cheesy - slightly better than an old 1950's "Twilight Zone" or "Outer Limits" episode...
I hadn't really believed in all the "demunzzzzz" bullsh*t that floated around the kingdom halls, before that; but seeing that cheesy video - and remembering how the Watchtower Corporation had "DEMUNIZZED" it....
Well, I came to the conclusion that there are no "demunzzz"; it's all just a means to control the Rank & File publishers... The only "demunzzzz" you'll run into, is the efforts of the Watchtower Corporation to "DEMUNIZZZZZ" normal, everyday life, to scare their followers into slavish, fear-based obedience...

Since this is my one year anniversary, another thread I wanted to resurrect. It does encapsulate my thoughts at the time. I’m still skeptical of demon-tales and am weary of superstitions. With the whole Sparlock incident, I see the GB has not relented in their stance of make believe.
I was only in five minuetes before being invited to a neighbouring congregation fancy dress party.
As I knew nobody would know me, I went as the invisible man by wearing sunglasses and bandage around my head, that way, people were thinking they must know me, but couldnt work out who I was,
anyway, in view of the topic, and I was allready aware of the JW paranoia, I was most suprised to see one of the Pioneer, Elder daughter I think, types, wearing a complete Devil outfit, skin tight in red, with tail and pitchfork, and nobdoy else seemed to consider this even remotely ironic.
Years later I was still friends with the original host and we were looking through her old photos, then I spotted the mentioned party pics, "theres me"!, I said, pointing to the invisible man, "Ive been wondering for years who that was", she replied.
Was this during the 70's or early 80's? Or perhaps this is out West where things are a bit more lax?
