Until 2 years ago I was doing the accounts in my cong and I was paying the bills...the rent to the KHall central account which pays for heating, power and supplies, money to the WT collected for the Worldwide Work and KHall Fund, CO's expenses, Kingdom Hall WT Insurance....but not literature invoice.

All I ever heard of, and this may have been gossip, was one Congo. near me that was always in the red, donations were very small, lots of old people and single mums etc I was told they were informed by HQ/London that their "contribution" was not large enough.

    Could this be true ?

When I was a Lit servant in the '80's there was an invoice that needed to be paid strictly on time or..... I don't know what.

When the 'donation only' arrangement for literature came in to avoid being taxed in various countries, I imagine the invoice was phased out and the pressure on the donation box came into the ascendancy. No longer Lit servant by then, thank God.

(How many Theocratic words did you count in my post ?)

There is no officiial paperwork BUT the WTS knows how much literature/mags are shipped to a congregation and the WTS attributes a monetary value. If the donations (worldwide) are much lower that what is ordered, the WTS willl communicate that to the elders. Indexes, Insight books, CDs, DVDs, were ordered in great amounts after 1990 and WW donations went down or stayed the same. The WTS did tell people that these things were not "free" but a donation would be "christian."

at our cong several years back, there was a needs talk on not enough money being "donated" for books, mags, dvds, etc. They pointed out we are way low in our donations. afterward I asked that elder how can "donations" which are supposedly freely given be low. A donation is what it is a donation not a specific amount to pay for a particular item. He tried to tell me I didn't have the right attitude, I told him, you are putting a price on particular items and they are supposed to be "free" are they not. He then turned and walked away. Assholes, they always want their money.
