Just as speculation - would we have any reason to believe that horse meat would be any cheaper than beef if it were as popular as beef and produced in a similar manner?
I see no reason that it would be a fraction of the price of other meat products if it were not viewed practically as a waste product in the mraket.
I'm reminded of an episode of M*A*S*H where Colonel Potter got all upset about locals eating horse meat. Paraphrasing, he said, horses are noble creatures, beautiful animals. Cows are ugly. We're doing them a favor by eating them.
Of course, Potter was an old horse soldier so he might have been a bit biased...

When I was a kid about 8 or so we were company and they served horse!!!! Hello what 8 year old little girl wants that???? I ate a piece almost cried but was trying to be a "good girl" my Dad knew how I felt and when no one was looking removed it from my plate

I will not voluntarily eat horse. I'm with LWT, this is not rational as I am happy to eat cow, pig, chicken, deer, elk etc. Some how eating a horse is just wrong. However something has to be done with the wild horse population. They are not a native species and in some parts of the west they are destroying the land. I just don't think eating them is the answer.
