The legal system is well known (and i know a personal case in Vic) for spending a long time 'investigating', having toothless tiger government bodies look very interested, only to toss it out with the trash because its just to hard and will cost too much money as well as open a political can of worms.
Ive seen a big case squashed by beuracracy, i don't trust them to do the 'right thing' anymore than i would trust the WT.
I am of the opinion that the police will not do much at all because they know that even when they arrest hard criminals the court system just slaps their wrist and sets them back on the street. They are going to have to be pretty committed to the job to charge 8 elders or whatever is going on in Traralgon Congo. This should be about much much more than a local investigation.
And then the Offfice of Public Prosecution has to think they can actualy win any of these cases, and the fact that they have not lightend Steven Unthanks burden goes to show they don't. These toothless tigers will always allow a citizen to get crushed doing what they should be doing, again, seen it before. Shut it down, ''not enough evidence.'' or some technicality over the definition of a verb.
The Governing Body has no representation because they don't care. They will hang Vincent out to dry if need be. The fact that the magistrate has so far failed to issue arrest warrants for them, as he was entitled to do, shows he doesn't think there is a chance either. Oh he might like to very much, but i think he knows that it wouldn't fly too.
To quote from the above mentioned case i am aware of, from a high position person in government organization, ''how did you get this far? Most people are basket cases long ago''.
I certainly hope Steven is made of strong stuff because the government is going to drag this out just as much as the WT wants to.
I now believe the only good to come out of this will be the WT having to comply with the law. It is not far enough reaching but at least it involves 'elders'.
The WT will 'win', not because they are right, but because the legal system is fataly flawed.
I really hope i am wrong, i hate to be pessimistic.
