There must be someone!

Hi aussie
try first your family doctor they will be able to put you onto councelors/professionals who will most likely be able to help you, esp if mental health is involved
kevin
i know that it might seem an odd place to start but so many service here in aus seem to be fragmented that the only connection will be through the medical industry, cults/mental health go hand in hand
Thanks kevin, I have spoken to a local teen help centre that has outlined the GP route as a start. I do know psychologists are out there to help with some of the issues i am seeing.
What i find though is a lack of experience out there with regards to exiting 'religions' such as JWs, Exclisive Bretheren, scientologists etc. I have had councelors who had not even heard of Jehovahs witnesses who would obviously be of little value with this rather unique situation.
They can't just suggest some 'family' mediation to sort it out! They don't understand, the JWs do not negotiate.
There must be an outreach surely for teens in that hell hole to turn to. I would bet even life line and beyond blue don't have any volunteers that could understand the complexities of WT labotomized parents.
Do these troubled teens trapped in the JWs have to turn to the internet? No phone call to somebody that has been there, done that and can give them some advice on what to do, what to expect or how to cope?

LOL Oz! Don't be so fussy! Any counsellor is a good counsellor. Fortunately here in Aussieland it is easy to find help like that. I was feeling really bad a couple of years ago, and walked in off the street, and within half an hour I had found someone’s shoulder to cry on. She was cute too, and I would have made a pass at her if I hadn’t been crying my eyes out.
IMO most people can sort through their problems once they open up and talk about it with someone, whether that person really understands them or not. It’s always worthwhile.
Hi Aussie Oz. Did you google "Australian Cult Therapist"? I did and found 5,440,000 links including http://www.cultcounselling.org/. I hope that this helps.
Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,
Robert
I'm not really sure what you are looking for.
There is a cult awareness website, that might be able to point you in the right direction for a willing leaver
but for the unwilling, not many are willing to risk jail time in the case of a failed intervention
I have to be fussy!
At least for this matter.
I have had my share of therapy, but this requires one i believe with a handle on groups like JWs and the like. I can find many links too, and a LOT of trawling through stuff to find one that 'knows'.
yes talking is always good, but other than that, it leaves it up to me to help with the challenges related to exiting the borg doesnt it?

Sorry Oz, I misread your op and was thinking more of the general situation. But still, for a teenager, leaving a cult is just one of a long list of paradoxes and challenges that have to be faced; plus it is probably easier to leave if one parent has already left the cult, too. Just adding my $0.02 for what it's worth.
Being a mainly atheist country maybe we don't take cults seriously enough- cult-busters could be hard to find. Good luck.
