Vanderhoven - with the possible exception of #7 you have perfectly described Roman Catholicism.
The authority of scripture is a classic example of group think.

Joey if you keep editing your posts after I have replied its impossible to have a discussion
lol sorry, forums and Mr Walker dont mix too well. Bye for now
Are you only going to argue about religions that are cults, what about buddhism?
My point is that all religions shackle the minds of their adherents. Buddism is no different, it has taken the man Siddhartha Gautama and elevated him to near divine status.
I don't believe the question is binary. All religions are cults its just a matter of degree.
Agreed.
Funny stuff! Too bad they're not listening.
When you hand someone a slip of paper and an elder will walk up to see what it was you handed someone else... that is a pretty good sign it is a cult, and pretty stupid they think you would give someone apostate meterial right under their noses, and if they actually had the truth why would they be afraid someone would or could take it from them. They are so afraid of someone becoming apostate that they are creating apostate.
Mathew 5: 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Same way war on terror was created...

"they are so afraid of someone becoming apostate that they are creating apostates" I think you have discovered something trueblue. I believe you are right.
Their fear might even be overpowering their theocracy making it darkness, not light... Because I suspect fear is power opposed to the power that is LOVE. Without the love they can't draw close to GOD.

Excellent point Cofty. I am not prepared to argue against it. However it seems to me that there are significant differences among Christian groups that go beyond simply degree of manifestation of the cult characteristics listed.
For example, take the first one:
1. Claim Exclusive Divine Approbation
All Cult groups are elitist, claiming special exalted status for themselves, their leadership and members. Cults are organizational exclusivists. One is excluded from possible relationship with God if one is not associated with the group. The group alone represents true Christianity and all other groups are demonic or inspired by satan. The group is the exclusive community of the saved and those who leave the group, leave God.
Unlike cults, most Christian churches do not claim such status. Most Christian groups clearly tend not to be organizational exclusivists, but relational exclusivists; one must have a relationship with Jesus Christ to be a Christian. Which church you belong to or visit or celebrate communion at, is essentially inconsequential.
The best way to test to see if the WTS is a cult is by checkin' out their own literature
On page 202 in the reasoning book under the subheading " Are jehovah witnesses a sect or a cult? "
they go on to explain: " A cult lives apart from the rest of society...Jehovah witnesses niether isolate
themselves from the rest of society."
Now lets examine that in the Organized to do jehovah's will book
On page 141, under the subheading "School Activities" the WTS states:
" To keep separate from the world while in school, young witnesses should consider the danger of becoming involved in extracurricular activities."
On page 142 under the subheading " Secular work and associates" the WTS states:
" Also, there is a need to be constantly aware of the dangers of bad association."
On page 155 under the subheading " disassociation" the WTS states:
" A person might renounce his place in the christian congregation by his actions, such as becoming part of a secular organization..."
seems to Ole Wuz, the WTS keep provin' to be the things they claim they are not
The WTS ain't foolin' nobody but the sheep, because one does not have to literally live
in a certain place to be part of a cult, nice try WTS but " WE GOT CHA "
