If you wonder why people keep mixing up the Bible Students with Jehovah's Witnesses look no further than this Letter from the Watchtower. They make the claim it was JWs making a 1874 claim, geeez Bible Students want nothing to do with JWs and their Leaders.

I'm surprised they answer letters like that.

I would think that if an inquiry letter like that came from a non-JW, the WTS would simply sent a couple of solid JWs from the area to witness to the person (ones who wouldn't be "stumbled" if the person was waiting to show them "apostate literature," etc.).

With all the concern about apostates lurking in the organization, I would think that if such a letter come from a JW they would notify the elders and have them either quickly bring the person back into the fold or DF him. At the same time, the elders would ask him for the names of other wavering JWs who might be supplying the person with unfavorable information or views about the religion.

This letter was written in February 2001. So while they are commenting on the "trustworthiness of Jehovah's organization" they were also in bed with the UN at this same time. Ironic, isn't it.

So, they say "Jehovah has not allowed his people to make ruinous mistakes"... but He evidently and obviously allowed them to ally themselves and redisseminate information for the UN for nearly a decade. By WT definition, that is an "apostasy." They have had another decade to address this situation, but instead covered it up, which in turn has lead to the stumbling of countless Witnesses who uncovered the truth of the matter.

I know some people who were Rhodes. My law school roommate applied. It is extremely competitive. Being accepted at Harvard/Yale/Princeton is easy by comparison. She graduated Harvard and had marketing flair but little depth. It is an honor for your school to nominate you but that it is the easiest part of the process. She never encountered such heated competition in her life. There was no chance she would last past the first round. It was a major commitment of time. They give you a fancy diploma sort of document that you competed. She threw her certificate in the trash.

So Freddie's less than sterling academic institution nominated him. I never knew his actual credentials in the past. He loomed so large and Witnesses treated him as though he was the wisest, most educated man who ever lived. I laughed so hard when I read his true credentials. They are not bad but when you allow everyone to bill you as Solomon x 1,000., it invites some laughter. Most people I know who are bright and well educated crave to work and play with others who are similar. Birds of a feather flock together. I adore practicing law when everyone sits around debating aspects of a case. Businesses stay in NY, despite enormous cost, for the intellectual capital of mixing with others who prove you are not so bright. Freddie is a curious case.

One more item - I am surprised that Bethel would provide such letters. Certainly, one could research the lit onself. It seems as tho they are engaging in some debate concerning their policies. I wonder how much leeway the writers have answering the letters. It binds the Society in a way. And no one is supposed to come close to questioning.
