The trouble is that we read the Bible with our preconceived ideas that the book is somehow 'holy', so we interpret it as using symbols to convey meaning; we look for meaning in our 21st century in a 1st century book; overlooking the fact that it is just a 2,000 year old catalogue of beliefs. The fact that the Watchtower can portray Armageddon as a nuclear blast or missile strike shows how much of the Bible is seen as being symbolic.
I've never heard of the WT portraying Armageddon as a nuclear blast or missile strike.
Do you have any references to this?
...want more?
They've never said Armageddon IS going to be a nuclear strike.
That pic is playing on other churches' ideas that that will be the way Armageddon comes.
I have said many times on this forum that there are aspects of some religions that are socially helpful or benign.
Taking religion as a whole though, we must includes the spread of Islam and it sects and the violent past of Christianity. My conclusion is that the world would be better off without religion and belief in a ‘personal’ God. I don’t rule out energy that is invisible to us but is aware of our existence.
Humanity would replace its reliance on God with self reliance and make a greater effort to improve life on earth. If we believe that this life is all we have, we may value it more.
Remerber folks, if the big hits and you have left the JW
organization and you have young kids. Guess what, God will
obliterate not only you but your young ones. Yes, you
will be held responsible for the death of your two year
old. What A loving God.
Does it make sense to kill off all the people of Germany
for the atrocities under Hitler. No we have become
civilized. Killing off whole nations of people, did it
make A difference???
cold steel; one other thought. Why where the children of Israel
so easily influenced. Missionary in the early 20 th century visit
countries where "wicked", profigate peoples who practiced
the most sadistic, disgusting debauchery.
Guess what, many became Christians.
