No wonder. Their message has become wimpy. Once upon a time, they had something of substance to preach about. Rubbish, but at least it was something that could be defended. These days, they have seen 1975 come and go without worldwide Armageddon. Many of them are in debt because they sold out in 1974 and 1975 only to be greeted by 1976. Then came the 1980s, when they were sure that the end was coming within 10 years--for sure, before 1995 was done. In 1995, all they got was a shift in "a generation".
All the while this is going on, they are getting more and more restrictions on entertainment. Up until the mid 1980s, they had congregation events where they would rent something and the whole congregation would be able to have some fun. Then, gradually the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger took that away. Even the minor variances, such as slide shows, goodie nights, food at the a$$emblies, and different formats in boasting sessions were taken away. A Grand Boasting Session back then had quite a bit to differentiate itself from others--if not in doctrine, in events that had nothing to do with the program. Today, much of that is gone.
And the more they sterilize things, the less people are going to be willing to undergo in order to defend it.
