Someone should write a screenplay and score for "Watch Tower Society - The Musical", perhaps borrowing a little from "The Producers".

Very nice musical rendition of Watchtower excuses. Now I've got the 12 days of Christmas going through my mind!
I was writing a normal response when I realized it is exactly like the 12 Days of Christmas. In 1 breath I've heard many a jw say it didn't happen, followed by, "It did happen but not like that," and then, "It did happen like that but..."
They've got more excuses than a pedophile meeting Chris Hansen, and just as dumb ones.
Did they ever say which unique UN NY materials they needed to access? It sounded like such a lame excuse. There are probably interlibrary loans of some sort. It would have to be only in the UN library, not available anyplace else. What tidbit of research could be so compelling to dance with the scary imagery they used to describe the UN. I could quickly name seven or eight world class libraries they could have used.
Besides, a short trip on Amtrak would let you have access to the library of the Library of Congress and the State Department. NY and DC are very heavy on international materials. Besides libraries, there are so many research groups, foundations, socieities, not to mention consulates in NY and embassies in DC.
This religion was 16 years of my life. I know I suffered little compared to little Pilgrims girls or Jewish girls in Germany but I suffered. It was a multigenerational family religion. I would like some core of it to be dignified and beyond reproach. Being here about one year has certainly opened my eyes to many things I had no clue ahout.
Clever remark about the Chris Hansen types. Speaking of Chris Hansen, do those guys waive privacy rights? The idea of someone stupid enough to accept $ so that North America (maybe more) can watch you broadcast TV is unbelievable.
My theory in the whole UN debacle was that they were sending in "spies" to watch what was going on in the UN regarding religion and religious bans in countries. Of course they could not openly admit it as they would expose themselves to ridicule....now witnesses are asked to "wait on Jehovah" in matters they have no clarity on, why couldn't they.
Regarding the "dump" I think they will simply state that the current departments had no knowledge of what was happening since it happened so long ago, put out the old hand and ask for more money from the sheep (fleecing) get it cleaned up in record time, plant a few trees and write an article saying how well they respond in emergencies.
As for Mr Uthank I think it will not do any damage at all to them, it would be far different if the state took this action or indeed if it takes it over. I think time that passes and the PR game the society plays will have people simply saying he is "disgruntled". People from Australia that I FB with have no knowledge of it and the one that did hear something had little interest. Sad really when it is an important issue.

Maybe. I assume b/c diplomacy is involved, the true action happens outside of public areas. My friend worked as a UN int'l civil servant. He is the complete opposite of the venal image the WT protected. Before 9.11 I dropped some Christmas cookies for my friend and his co-workers. I was shocked when security let me roam the buildings. My friend gave me a behind the scenes tour. The overwhelming space is vast but not open to the public. The 50s modern design well done but stuck in time was interesting.
He used to feel so isolated from American society working at the U N. It has its own culture, separate from that of anyone one country. When Pres. Reagan was shot by Hinckley, everyone stood top of their desks and cheered. It wasn't only the lowly. They would need to find a Bethelite to act in a very secular manner. A regular Bethelite might spook them to call security. Seeing how the Witnesses treat educated Bethelites so well, maybe they recruit Bethelites for the purpose of schmoozing with secular figures.
I can't recall the year but if the internet were around, the UN must dump all their agency publications online. There is something in the espionage train that is interesting and humorous.

What the WT apologists also overlooks is this: What are the requirements to become an UN NGO? What do you need to do in order to qualify?
The NGO must:

Associated NGOs undergo a specifically designed evaluation and review process.

Hi MeanMrMustard, thanks so much for that. Your research highlights just how woefully insufficient the "library" excuse really is. Would it be acceptable to sing the US national anthem if it meant getting access to a federal library?
I think in the case of the UN NGO scandal, the Society were relying on Witnesses who heard the excuse lacking the courage to drill deeper, which in most instances is the case.

What about when they cancelled the book study, after it running for over a hundred years, and blamed high gas prices!
Yes the WT was a NGO affiliated with the UN. Supposedly to obtain a "library card."
But when you compare that to the fact that if any R&F JW went to the YMCA to go swimming that they would be summarily DF'd then we get a sense of the hypocrisy going on here!
