What's your operating system Min'? Could you try rolling back to a system restore point dated to before you "incorrectly removed some stuff"?
Good luck

Hi Minimus,
I also had the same issue after getting a new computer. It's most likely cause by compatibility issues with Internet Explorer 9. If you want to use IE 9, before you post click on the compatability icon (looks like a torn paper page) located just to the left of the refresh icon. After you click on the icon, you will be able to post. You will have to do this each time you come to JWN.

The icon is located at the top on the page just to to right of the address bar.

Use either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
This site does not support IE 9.

You have waaaaaay too many posts anyway
Seriously though, in additoin to the browser issue, make sure you have the latest Java console. Google it and the download from Oracle should be easily spotted.

Same thing just happened to me 3 or 4 days ago. My husband removed all the cookies from JWN only...that worked.. What would I do without him? Been on JWN for a year and this was the first time I ever had a problem. Hope this helps.

I have seen some issues with posting here with IE9, especially if you are still using Windows XP. First, try upgrading to Windows 7 (hint: You are almost certain to need more RAM because you probably have 1 GB or less, and you need at least 4 GB to work properly). If that doesn't work, you need to use a different browser. IE8 might still be available, but the other browsers work just fine.
And no, you probably do not need another motherboard--unless you are still running Windows 95 and are limited to SD-RAM and 512 MB max. If that's the case, and you wish to upgrade, you will need a motherboard that can handle DDR2 or DDR3 RAM. (And probably a better processor to boot, along with a bigger hard drive and at least 4 GB of RAM). And, if that is too complicated, or you just got another computer, simply put another browser and you are probably good to go.
Cost: New browser--about 15 minutes of time downloading and setting it up.
More RAM: About 60 toilet papers US for 2 GB, plus the time to install it. If you do it yourself, allow 20 minutes plus time to clean the RAM slots before installing it. If you hire it out, prepare for $75 labor.
Getting the whole computer updated: Motherboards are expensive (better ones cost 150 toilet papers), and the other components add up. Necessary only if you need to upgrade everything (not probable). Labor is probably an hour (2 if you are not handy with taking computers apart), or about $200 labor to take it in.
New computer: A decent one starts at 500 US toilet papers plus 3-4 hours to migrate your data to the new machine. You still need to install another browser. Hiring someone to set up your computer can run from $100 and up (higher to migrate more data).
Whichever you are going to do, I suggest doing it in the very near future, at least getting any new hardware you need. Install the new browser now, and you will know if you need further upgrades by whether or not that works. Do it now before your dollars become worthless.
