Yesterday my elder dad (I think he's still an elder) dropped me home and coming up the hill to my house were two young women strolling along at snails pace carrying what looked like bibles. I didn't say a word but my dad started laughing and said

''they look like sisters don't they. They've got the pioneer walk. They crawl along and the only time he speed up is when they've got their time in''

I just lauged along with him. He wasn't saying it in a critcal way either. He was just observant of something funny. I was just surprised that he made such a comment to me. As if I was still in. I mean, why admit something like that to an outsider??? I've been out not far off 20 years.

Perhaps at least a part of your Dad is awake and can see the WBT$ is not what it seems.

    I hope so.

At least he is communicating with you honestly.

Im totally convinced that a majority of JW are really decent people caught ( without them knowing ) in a religion.

Your Dad sounds like a nice guy.

It shows that no-one really believes it is a life-saving work, Imagine a fire and rescue worker adopting the "pionsneer walk".

He is a lovely man. One of the nicest you could meet. He is very well liked in the congregation, his neighbours and his customers (ex window cleaner)

I hope that it may mean that your father is awakening...but the phrase "Pioneer Walk" is a pretty well known joke among the dubs that I know..It is well founded on truth, of course.

Still, as you say, one would not say it to someone that you were hoping to impress with the 'urgency of the times'.

In my area, JW's called it the "pioneer stroll" and the "pioneer shuffle." They knew it was slow and joked about it often. But I heard some pioneers defend it and say something about the hare and the tortoise. "Slow and steady wins the race."

    Thanks for the memory.
