Poor Grandma

My cousin just called me and gave me some distressing news. It seems that last night my grandma was publicly reproved at the Kingdom Hall. My grandma was born is 1900 so she is now well over 100 years old. She is one of the so-called annointed and still has the old phonograph she used to carry around with her from door to door playing records on. She is, however, still quick witted and able to get to all of the meetings. It seems that she had been observing someting of a romantic nature between one of the married elders and a young, unmarried sister in the congregation. She mentioned this to one of the sisters and somehow it got back to the elders. So they pull this old woman into the back room, tell her that she has been gossiping about one of the older men in the congregation, show her some scriptures and advise her that they are going to show her mercy by not disfellowshipping her. They are only going to publicly reprove her. This is because my grandma stood firm behind her story and told them that she believed that something was going on and that they should investigate it. Its sad though. Grandma has been a good, solid witness for so many years you'd think that would show her more respect than that. I feel so bad for her but I don't know what to do. She is too old and to set in her ways to change now. Anyway, I just felt like sharing.

    Hello Dutchy

I don't think you should distress yourself...because the elders will do what they feel they HAVE to do...and no one can say or do a thing about it...(they act with God's blessing remember!) Your grandmother will be humiliated and reproved for 'gossiping'....and yet they will overlook elders who have tampered with children. What does that tell you? Personally, I think your grandmother has offended someone with some status in the congregation....and I guess they feel it is high time she were knocked down a peg or two.

Your grandmother will have to take it on the chin and should pick up her petticotes and carry on....unless she wants to change her whole way of life and a lifetime of conditioned thinking. I doubt it...she will be too long in the tooth for that now. She will nurse her hurt feelings...but she will continue to serve Jah faithfully.

How has the elder's treatment of your grandmother affected you and your faith? Are u still an active JW?

    Cheers
    Beck

    Dutchy,
That is sad that your grandma.
A faithful one of old being mistreated like that. You know, the elders would think that as she is "annointed" she would have more spirit operating on her to help keep the congo clean.
But what it really shows is that it's not what you know, it's WHO you know.
Be there for your Grandma, she's been around a long time, and family is what is important.
Make the most of the time you have with her man.
I do that with mine, despite her twisted JW beliefs, I still love her and see her no matter what.

Maybe she will find out that you are never too old to wise up and get out of their control. If they ever were a Godly organization, that passed long ago!

If God's Spirit is filling a Kingdom Hall, how is it that Satan can manuever the ones within that Kingdom Hall at the same time?

Hi Ashitaka: Yeah, I know, it is a lot in one day. However, since everyone in my family is one of Jehovahs Witnesses I have a lot of venting to do and now I've found a place to do it. By the way, my daughter's dress was not too tight, it was too short, at least accoding to the elder. It was an a-lined dress so it was not tight at all. Anyway, loved your San Francisco poem. You're a real fine poet.

I'm wondering if the elder that was caught during his indescretions was the one to actually make the announcement. Apparently there was a power struggle and the anointed woman lost out. Anointed women still have less power then a great crowd elder.
