I believe SOPA and PIPA are both on hold for now. That is, on hold the way NDAA was. President Osama Obama signed NDAA after threatening to veto it, doing so when everyone was celebrating New Years Eve. No petitions counted for that--any that were signed were dismissed upon the veto threat and wound up in the rubbish.
Petition or not, SOPA is as good as passed at some time. They will wait until people are drunk for the Superbowl, or perhaps start that war with Iran (your petitions will do no good as they will all get laughed at as Osama Obama merely places them in the rubbish. Once the people are distracted, SOPA is going to get signed regardless of how many petitions are signed.
And they wonder why I call it the United Tyranny of Stupidity.

I fear WTWizard is correct. The US has shown that they don't give two shits about the about the general population. The bill has been bought and paid for by the movie industry and will almost certainly be passed in some form.

Please see George Carlin on YouTube for an indication of how this will play out.

LeavingWT, when we the people speak up and act, we can influence, club or not. Carlin was a bitter, cynical fatalist.
A Better Way to Fight the Online Theft of American Ideas and Jobs
By Senator Marco RubioIn recent weeks, we’ve heard from many Floridians about the anti-Internet piracy bills making their way through Congress. On the Senate side, I have been a co-sponsor of the PROTECT IP Act because I believe it’s important to protect American ingenuity, ideas and jobs from being stolen through Internet piracy, much of it occurring overseas through rogue websites in China. As a senator from Florida, a state with a large presence of artists, creators and businesses connected to the creation of intellectual property, I have a strong interest in stopping online piracy that costs Florida jobs.
However, we must do this while simultaneously promoting an open, dynamic Internet environment that is ripe for innovation and promotes new technologies.
Earlier this year, this bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously and without controversy. Since then, we've heard legitimate concerns about the impact the bill could have on access to the Internet and about a potentially unreasonable expansion of the federal government's power to impact the Internet. Congress should listen and avoid rushing through a bill that could have many unintended consequences.
Therefore, I have decided to withdraw my support for the Protect IP Act. Furthermore, I encourage Senator Reid to abandon his plan to rush the bill to the floor. Instead, we should take more time to address the concerns raised by all sides, and come up with new legislation that addresses Internet piracy while protecting free and open access to the Internet.https://www.facebook.com/SenatorMarcoRubio/posts/340889625936408

BTS: I contacted my Senators and Congressman about this, several weeks ago. (These guys voted in favor of NDAA. I expect them to rubber stamp this bill, too.)

LeavingWT. Politicians aren't angels, as you know. They respond to incentives. It is up to us to provide them. We are supposed to be self-governing, afterall.
You don't solve things by electing the right individuals. You solve things by making it politically preferable for politicians, whether the "right" individuals or not, to do the right things. Humans respond to incentives.

And that boils down to we, the people.
That said, it's nice to have the "right" people in office.

But I wonder if signing this petition is going to get anyone anything except a bossy letter from the White House telling you why you are wrong.
