Everybody is right. There is no reason to talk to the COBE or CO. Nothing will come from that. They will just take things out of context and beat you with the whip to keep pioneering.

Go to college, it may be one of the best things you can do for youself. Just be prepared to answer these questions every week at the kingdom hall.

"When are you going to be done with school?"

"What do you need all that schoolin for?"

"Do you think you will pioneer again?"

    "Weve missed you?"

"He asked me to promise him that i'll speak to the presiding overseer and the circuit overseer....i haven't as yet."
Please don't do that. No good will come of it.

Agreed! if you talk them and they 'strongly counsel' you against higher education and then you register for classes anyway, you will be being rebellious, you will be on their radar, you will be inviting trouble. Don't ask. Just do it and don't hide it but don't tell everybody about it either.

    Just quietly go to school.

    MGG20 - good for you!

funny how even the WTS supports higher education yet don't even realize it. what do I mean?

a year or 2 ago I attended a CA where the CO referred to a "report" that showed that 75,000 jobs in the US that only require a high school diploma are staffed with college graduates. His point was that college is a waste of time and money since you may only get the same job you would have recieved with only a HS diploma.

    THINK ABOUT THIS

This IDIOT just PROVED that 75,000 high school graduates are now UNEMPLOYED because college graduates took their jobs!!!!!! So now you need a college degree just to get a low wage unskilled job?? How does that not support the need for higher education?

I was dumb founded. Everyone just nodded their heads with wide-eyed amazement of how smart they are for not wasting their time in college. Then they all went to their night shift cleaning jobs to make minimum wage and rent a crappy basement apartmen.

I knew plenty of sisters that went to college for a degree, saying that they really, really wanted to get into Bethel, and that was the only way that they could get accepted.

Once they had their degrees, most forgot all about Bethel.

I was shocked in bethel, there were doctors, dentists, lawyers, architects... they had the best rooms, their own cars, own offices. I was hurt by it. I knew one female that got told that as a female the only way to be sure to get in was a degree is something they wanted. She did architecture.

We never saw them either (mostly the lawyers) they occupied the top floor in the apartment and never mingled.

p.s. I remember telling people at home and they refused to believe the society had lawyers.. how shamefully ignorant can you be. Like there are 8 men with crowns, ruling over a book factory, with no legal rep.

Congrats on deciding to go to college! Just started last fall myself and am enjoying every minute.

I would keep quiet about it, though. It's none of anyone's business anyway.

I now realize why the society preaches against going to college. Every class I take emphasizes STRONGLY the need for and value of CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS --- not good for a religion that likes to control and manipulate information!

Good for you. No need to talk to others about this. By the way what's your home life like and you family? Casual witnesses (the best kind) or

    hard core?

Not only critical thinking skills, but how to research, I mean to do REAL research on a topic and to not just isolate your research to WT books and pamphlets.

The first time I decided that I was going to school, my wife went completely bonkers. Now, she hasn't had to work in the last 15 years and often wonder what will become of her if something were to happen to me.

But, now that I'm back just finishing up a Bachelors and deep in for a masters, she around about way is trying to tell me I'm never satisfied and is still trying to downplay education on the sly.

That WT programming is pretty damn strong.
