I absolutely LOVE Fat Freak's comment: "Be one more slowly dripping faucet." We don't get people to leave en masse and we probably never will but if each of us help a few, drip drip drip, we win. This isn't a battle of knockout punches, it's a war of attrition.
Thanks, MS.
And all the best to you, TTWSYF.
Mad Sweeney - Yeah, that's true that why let's take how possible to take with us
Yes, you will be disfellowshipped for "apostasy". Which is fine if your goal is to take as many as possible out with you.
But, the biggest problem is that the witlesses are programmed to reject anything that goes against their Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger regardless of your writing style. Others have also tried--only to find that the witlesses refuse to hit their web sites (Six Screens of the Watchtower is one of those--picketing REJECT Jesus Parties in hopes that people will hit their web site, only to find that most will refuse to venture there). That is what happens when they bash the whole Internet, particularly user-uploaded content sites.
And it gets little better on TV. I can remember NBC broadcasting a piece right on the evening news about 4 years ago (the day before Thanksgiving 2007) exposing the pedophiles within the religion. The witlesses blithely ignored it. Other documentaries about door knocking have also been blithely ignored. A video about cults in general yields "It is a shame what goes on within that cult", but they ignore that the same rubbish happens in their own. Usually, once a program on TV exposes anything bad about the Washtowel Slaveholdery, witlesses are programmed to hit the "OFF" button or change the channel. Just like the big network exposing them in 2007, your program will elicit witless pushings of the OFF buttons.
The newspaper is also going to have similar results. Witlesses love favorable publicity about the religion in the newspapers, usually before their Grand Boasting Sessions. However, they will blow off anything that paints them in a bad light. Yes, you may be willing to be disfellowshipped. But the witlesses are only going to slam the door on the exit by blowing off such reading and viewing.
Now, since you can't reach the witlesses, your target is the public. Having this publicity will not get anyone else out with you. But, if you can make one prospective study think twice before joining, you have accomplished something. This will make it harder for the witlesses to recruit members. Stagnation will result. In spite of the "Don't be discouraged if no one responds" from the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger, some will get tired of wasting their gas and time doing something that yields nothing. You might get them to slow down. You might get someone to do only 10 hours a month instead of pious-sneering, or do 2-3 hours instead of 10. Eventually, they will get discouraged--and no one will replace them because they have lost interest due to the religion being exposed. Hopefully, some will leave, making trouble for the hounders--not because of your exposing them, but because they are sick and tired of wasting their damn time and money doing something that is having zero results.
And, since you plan on going with the mainstream media, it is SOPA proof, PIPA proof, and ACTA proof. Even if the Internet gets shut down by SOPA or PIPA, or with the international treaty ACTA, the newspapers and TV networks will still pick up the program. And even if your country doesn't have internet access, the newspaper will still do its dirty work and embarrass the witlesses.
Let's hope it has a bigger impact on new recruits than the November 21, 2007 NBC exposure of the pedophile problem with the witlesses on the evening news.
I recall (aging myself) when Dr. Kildare with Richard Chamberlain did an episode about a JW refusing blood. The Society just knew the broad contours but encouraged all to see it. I was so impressed with the legitimacy of Dr. Kildare. Did I have a crush on Richard Chamberlin! We watched it anyway on a regular basis. The show did not gloriy the Witnesses. Factually, it was correct.
Life was like this. Promises of mainstream media endorsing the Witnesses only to be crushed.
As big a Dr. Kildare fan as I was, I remember chest pains and fears of brothers getting on their high horse. I wondered if I could ever see Kildare again.
This repeated again and again for the very occasional dramatic story of fearless, idiotic Witnesses. Did Bethel ever truly believe there would be an exemplaary story on broadcast TV with its Middle America ways and advertisers. Yes, I was physically afraid. Perhaps Armageddon would be triggered. Utter destruction b/c the Kildare writers did not suck up to the Witnesses. They were ever neutral. It was not antiWitness. The driving force was not the Witness belief but uber handsome Dr. Kildare.
