We were talking about this on Topix the other day. I beieve that some congs are better than others re getting a decent job. One witness said that they had many proffesional people in the cong. However in my experience there are certainly more cleaners etc in the organisation than in the general workplace percentagewise. Which is hardly surprising as the society do not encourage further education.

This is going to blow up in their faces. Their higher education ban is not new, nor is it based on the fact that it so often is a debt trap these days. I do encourage people looking at college to get an objective look at the debt they are likely to incur and decide for themselves whether or not it is worth it. But, that wasn't a big problem back in 1969 when they wanted people to sell out and pious-sneer. Those who did that were rewarded with a career of stagnation and misery of their own making as people got laid off in the 1970s. Those with degrees would find jobs soon after, while those without degrees would be unemployed for a longer time.
But, regardless of the debt issue, the witlesses won't do anything. How many of them encourage developing of any skills? None. Do they take a few classes so they can do electrical or plumbing work? Do they encourage apprenticeship in fixing electronics? Do they encourage working on cars? What about landscaping? What about designing buildings? They also lack skills in using computers (let alone repairing them)--I, for one, wound up getting behind in my computer usage skills because I was a witless when Windows '93 came out. This prevents them from getting data entry jobs, let alone computer programming jobs that pay good and are pretty much fire-proof.
Besides that they lack skills to land jobs because of pious-sneering, they won't even be able to survive long in a barter environment. Ask any witless what they will do if they wake up and find gas is a nonillion toilet papers a gallon, a small hamburger is 800 octillion toilet papers, and other prices go up without warning. Or, the value of their bank accounts is confiscated to bail out the banks because they wish to enslave the whole human race. At which point, currency will fail. But not gold and silver. How many witlesses have significant physical assets? How many know how to do things that could be traded for other goods and services? Or, to make or repair things so they can sell them? In a barter situation, the ability to go online is going to be worth more than your 55 meter TV set (so fixing computers is going to be worth more than refurbishing TVs).
And, at that point, reputation will be worth more than a license. I remember getting a "refurbished(??)" TV that was rubbish. Someone put it in the rubbish and the witless pulled it out to clean it up a little. The problems I had were a noisy volume control knob (static when I turned it) and a keypad for selecting channels that did not return the correct value when a button was pushed. It would go to "02" when power was lost, and hitting "03" to fix it would return values from "1" to "9" for the first 0, and anything but a 3 when I hit the "3" key. That is not going to enhance his reputation. Better to get something done by someone that lacks a license but is committed to do an excellent job than by someone that wasted the time to get the license, tested for the license, and does a crappy job in the real world.
Meaning, the witlesses had better be preparing to do something. They are going to need a skill to barter when the dollar becomes rubbish. Going to college may be one way to learn that skill. Apprenticeships, online courses, DVD courses, and single classes are others. But, whatever they do, they better not listen to the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger telling them to pious-sneer (which will give them zero benefit).

WITNESS: Yes, it is the same in the US as well. The point being they would be able to make their own hours and be able to do more hours in door-to-door. They tried to get me involved and I tried cleaning one house with another sister (married). Forget it! Peanuts for physical labor and once you hit middle age and your back goes it's over. Besides, I'm single and need to support myself and I could NOT be compared to somebody who had a husband who was REALLY supporting the household. I never lost sight of this fact. The real big picture is that now with our economy being in a near depression, many housecleaning jobs have disappeared. If a homeowner is suffering financially, they will be less likely to pay an outsider to clean! The same applies to office cleaning jobs as well. If a company folds up the cleaning job disappears.

You think it is bad now. Just hold on: If someone ever invents self-cleaning windows, there's going to be mass unemployment in the organization.

In my former hall, there were roughly 40 active publishers. Only 3 people work in anything like janitorial positions. 3 work in a restaurant that they own. 2 run businesses that employ 4 other witnesses (plus some non-witness employees). The people at that particular hall were mostly solidly middle class. The only really low income people all moved away. Actually there was a bit of an elitist vibe there.

In my area some "brothers" have a trade - there are several electricians, carpenters and home renovation businesses, IT specialists, prison guard, maintanance and cleaning, auto plant workers, nurses, printing...so the mix is "typical" to our area. Of course some of the pioneers are window cleaners...we have a sister who weigh about 85 lbs who cleans windows...she looks like she is half dead and starving...yet she told he experience at the CA...how great it was to serve Jehovah full time...
