The Purpose Of The Circuit Assembly, Is To Show How Much More We Can Do, or How Little We Do?

The purpose of the circuit assembly is to generate revenue for the Watchtower Society. While you are there with your checkbook / cash, it's an opportunity for them to indoctrinate you a little more.

It is kinda sad. It's a beating meeting. How awful a chrsitian u r seems to be the theme. That and the CO's and DO's will usually spout some sort of personal opinion from the platform that wouldn't have been allowed at the DA. One DO went on for 20 minutes about how Star Wars is an insult to God's creation. He ended it with how his personal wedding was so spiritual compared to what others in the congregation do, because they didn't spend alot of money and for entertainment at dinner, the sisters sang kingdom melodies. What was his talk about? Hell if I know. I jusy left feeling like crap.

I remember when churches first started taking plastic for donations. JW's could be quite snarky about it, and sometimes it was mentioned from the platform. We were always better cuz we gave cash. I remember people making fun of the following Watching The World entry. I guess they misunderstood---they thought the WT was condemning when really they were simply reporting-----and learning.

Plastic
CardDonations
“A growing number of Canadian churches” are adopting “modern banking practices, introducing bank cards and credit cards as convenient ways for parishioners to make collection-plate donations,” says the VancouverSun newspaper. Debit machines have been placed in church halls along with “donation envelopes with options for automatic account withdrawal and credit card payment.” Individuals simply swipe their card, key in the amount they wish to donate, and then put a copy of the receipt in the collection plate. As one pastor stated: “A cashless society is where society is going. Why not the church?” A church treasurer joked: “You get air-miles on your card, plus you go to heaven for donations. Just think of it as double reward points.”

Those wastefests are there to drain your bank account (with those credit card machines), to guilt you into wasting your time pious-sneering, and to waste the whole weekend. They are getting precisely zilch from me--generally my rule is to donate a little if you think you will be blessed, and then wait for the blessing. If you get the blessing, donate more. If the blessings don't show up or show up in some obscure fashion (such as the opportunity to pious-sneer or go to Algeria or Niger to do missionary work, you don't donate anything further. At least that will cut your losses.
That also goes for service. Just do a little at first. If Jehovah gives you bountiful blessings, do more. If such blessings refuse to materialize, or if they manifest in a trip to some Third World country, then do nothing more. If Jehovah plays that "Patience" rubbish, then while you are waiting, the blessings didn't materialize and you will not do any more. Regardless of how much they boast about someone else doing more, if Jehovah refuses to bless you, then you don't do more. If Jehovah blesses someone else in lieu of you, same thing--no more service. Let the blessee do the work, and realize that your piddling work is probably more than Jehovah himself does for you. And, if someone waits their whole life for things and does more in anticipation, it's their life going to waste and not yours.

it just seemed as if everyone was simply going through the motions or wondering if Armageddon was indeed "just around the corner" or not...
Frankly, I think a lot have quit wondering about it . . . they know it's not gonna come in their lifetime . . . . The End . . . . has an all new meaning . . .THEIR END.

You got that right! Recent BIG increase in MANDATORY FEE paid per person for "use of Assm Hall facilities". It is NOT based on voluntary contributions. The Circuit is assessed a specific COST PER PUBLISHER. If the voluntary contributions are not sufficient for the Circuit to pay the Invoice, then an Invoice is sent to each Cong in the Circuit (again based on publisher count) to collect the demanded Usage Fee. Nothing voluntary about it. THEY WILL COLLECT THEIR FEE. And it far exceeds the cost of operation of the facility (which was already bought and paid for by the publishers being charged excessive fees to use it again).
