Here’s a typical conversation that once would happen on an almost daily basis with a close relative. Maybe it will help to show why I am not always sympathetic with certain posters.
Rel. You never come and see me.
Me. I visited you yesterday. I’m here now, too.
Rel. Life’s a shit and then you die.
Me. What?
Rel. Nobody comes to see me.
Me. Perhaps you should visit them?
Rel. I can’t leave my dog.
Me. Take the dog with you.
Rel. No the dog barks too much.
Me. Then leave her with the neighbours.
Rel. The neighbour fancies me, I think he drinks.
Me. But you enjoy a drink too.
Rel. I’m just a little old lady who needs looking after. No wonder I drink. Nobody cares about me.
Me. You’re 64!
Rel. I’ll be dead before I’m 65.
Me. Why?
Rel. Nobody cares, sod them all. I’m ill too.
Me. Have you been to the doctor?
Rel. You wait until I die, that will teach him a lesson! I hate him!
Me. Hate who?
Rel. I hate doctors!
Me. Tell you what, I’ll go to the library and get you a good book to read.
Rel. I can’t read, my eyes are giving out.
Me. OK, I’ll get one of those books with great big print.
Rel. Those books are just for old ladies!
Me. But you just said……
Rel. You just want me to die so that you can have all my money.
Me. You said that you are penniless.
Rel. Shows how little you know! Ha ha! You thought you were so clever! Ha ha ha! I hate you. You’re just a f*****g shit like the rest of ‘em!
Me. Bye.
And after years and years, that’s why I’m not too sympathetic with persons who go down that road!
