I went to the one in Poland in 1985. It was the first in the Iron Curtian.

I went before it became stauts quo. Many JWS were afraid to go in 1985 to a Communist Country. I had a great time. I met 4 of the Governing body when I was there.

I was so exicted, I was reading every one name badges. I was reading one of the guys name badges "Dan Sydilick, Governing body." He gave me a very strern strange look and I went Oh Oh, I am sorry. His wife was drop dead gourgus.

Anyone else go in 1985 to both Warsaw and Kracow?

Kaethra, We were at Poznan. Which convention did you go to?

We were told NOT to make our own arrangements, and if we were not on the approved list, we were to go to our home convention. They didn't want "just anyone" showing up at those "special" conventions.

Mulan - I believe that we were at the convention in Krakow. I do know that we stayed in Warsaw though. Went to the Warsaw ghetto. Bought a great deal of silver and amber. (My mom and I even played hookie from the convention one day to go shopping...hee hee)

Did you visit Auswitz and its neighbouring concentration camp? Was it Berkenov? So disturbing. It was like you could smell the death.

The Zakopani mountains were lovely though.

The last one I remember I was pretty young 1970's ish.
It was either at the Forum or DogerStadium. We had three families from different parts of the states staying at our house and none spoke english. Breakfeast was fun! Ha ha ha.

    Dodger stadium in July!

What could be more fun for a teenager than sit for 8 hours in the hot sun under one of thousands of colored umberella's. I think it was 68' or early 70's was my first unless my mom took me to others before I was too young to remember.

    Kaethra,
We were with our 10 year old son, and another couple from our KH, and their two girls, 10 and 11. So we thought they were too young to see the camps, and chose a tour that didn't include them. We did see the Warsaw Ghetto though (where it had been I should say), and you could feel that something had happened there. It was a good experience and I'm glad we went. When we went shopping there was little to buy. The stores were nearly empty. I don't like amber jewelry, but we did buy some crystal that was wonderful, and some copper things.

Wow, they must of let their guard down in 1985. I was only baptized for 6 months when I was approved.

I went to LA in 1978. I have some photos from Dodger Stadium from the convention I should find out, scan and post. It was my first big trip alone. I stayed with a family who had an apartment in North Hollywood. I had a fun time going to Disneyland, Universal Studios etc. I don't remember much about the convention other than it was hot and they sold real Coca Cola not some cheap cola like at UK assemblies.

I went to Wembley, London in 1969 as a kid. That was an International, and the biggest assembly I have ever attended. In those days the conventions lasted 5 days and had evening sessions, yuk! How did we ever put up with them?
