Tornapart, I agree. Not all Elder's or their wives spill the Beans and have some dignity. There are a good amount that take their responsibility very seriously. I think the wives can keep secrets better than them! I should have named this thread, "Some Elders have a big mouth" instead LoL. But Still, I would never take that chance and tell anyone my private stuff. |
zordino, I agree, some elders do have a big mouth. We also have an elder who is like that. He would share private info on the ministry. One out of 7 elders in this congo is not bad).
imo what spreads confidential personal information about oneself is the climate of disclosure the WTS cultivates. So if a brother or sis has a problem they are encouraged through the literature to share it with mature ones quickly before it affects their spirituality. This usually means that the one who brought you into the truth will be the one who first hears about the problem (or your best friend). He or she will then tell the individual to speak to an elder. Meanwhile the study conductor may share the information with another person and so on...
In my experience half the congregation generally knows about something before it makes its way to an elder and the whole congregation generally knows before the elder's wife get to know. When the info eventually get to an elder he usually warns the person to keep it confidential but by this time the congregation are already gossiping. I blame the climate of disclosure and fear for one's spirituality that the WTS fosters.
