Watching TV, JW wife can see a problem with a fictional cult

So the JW wife and I are watching THE MENTALIST (CBS crime investigation show) and the crime is the murder of a former cult member of a fictional cult; the Visionaries. The first policeman on scene is a Visionary who tampered with the scene to remove evidence that a Visionary killed a former member. My wife says "He's going to risk his career and violate the law to protect someone he probably does not even know. Why?"

I wouldn't give her a pass on her comment. "People in your religion violate HIPA laws (health information privacy act) to report members who receive abortions or blood transfusions. They will steal children from a hospital rather than obey a court order concerning surgery."

    "They don't protect a murderer."

I could have gone to protecting pedophiles but she would just deny the real truth, so I said "Faithful in what is least or what is most. They will violate the law, feeling they have a higher cause. Tell me how that differs from the show." No response. We watched the show as if nothing were ever said.

OTWO- Wow. Isn't it amazing how JW's can see the injustices in outside scenarios in other groups or organizations, but not their own ? My JW dad and mom are exaactly the same way. I find that most JW's are totally unable, unaware, unconscious - or a combination of those 3 things - to see ANY injustices within the WT society or JW organization. It's like the WT society is protected by fictitious Teflon and there's always an alibi or an excuse for what causes the WT society to do what they do. Amazing. Mind control is alive and well in JW land these days

Maybe she'll really give that some thought. Do you actually know of JWs who have violated HIPAA? I would so report them to the authorities! Even when I was a JW working in the hospital I was always careful to keep my religion separate from my profession. I figured if a JW came in and got blood, that would be a "wait on Jehovah" situation. As in, let Jehovah reveal the matter in his own way and time that does not involve me losing my license.

I think if nothing further was said she was still thinking about it. Plant seeds whenever you can.

According to Steven Hassan, this is an effective method of planting seeds of doubt so that when, and IF, someone that is in a manipulative mind-control cult is ready to begin questioning, the pieces will the more easily and readily fall into place.

    Don't give up!

^Agreed. I was talking to a friend the other day. He is not baptised but believes it is the "truth". So I explained to him something that happened with the mormon church regarding a doctrinal flip flop. I asked him how could God be revealing something that flip flops? He agreed and said that makes ZERO sense. That was my window.....I explained just one doctrinal JW flip-flop and he was SHOCKED! Now he is in the midst of research.

Creating an outside scenario does work. But its amazing just how often a JW will say how something does not make sense, or is awful without realising the very same situation is prevalent in their own. Great job though OTWO...never know where those little seeds will land.
