I never was cool when it came to music. Didn't really remember who sang what...but, I knew what I liked when I heard it. Growing up JW and poor...buying Albums, cassettes and CDs were a luxury not to mention "worldly". So, I just listened to the Radio. Here's what I listen to now...and what I listened to then.(sorry..don't have just 1)

    New Stuff
    Train
    Nickelback
    Puddle of Mudd
    Dave Matthews Band
    David Gray
    Incubus
    Staind
    Matchbox Twenty
    Oleander
    Blind Melon (RIP)
    Marcey Playground

    Old Stuff
    The Beatles
    Doors
    Pink Floyd
    Eagles
    Led Zeppelin
    Moody Blues
    ZZ Top
    Boston
    Aerosmith
    Steve Miller Band

This song isn't deep or socially conscious, in fact it doesn't make a lot of sense...there was something about it I liked. It made me feel young, relaxed and free. ...and who doesn't like sex & candy?

Marcy Playground - Sex And Candy

    Hangin' round downtown by myself
And I had so much time
To sit and think about myself
    And then there she was
    Like double cherry pie
    Yeah there she was
    Like disco superfly
I smell sex and candy here
Who's that lounging in my chair
    Who's that casting devious stares
    In my direction
Mama this surely is a dream

    Hangin' round downtown by myself
And I had too much caffeine
And I was thinkin' 'bout myself
    And then there she was
    In double platform suede
    Yeah there she was
    Like disco lemonade
I smell sex and candy here
Who's that lounging in my chair
    Who's that casting devious stares
    In my direction
Mama this surely is a dream
Mama this surely is a dream
Yeah mama this must be my dream

    Elsewhere

    John Lennon - Imagine.

    Imagine there's no heaven,
    It's easy if you try,
    No hell below us,
    Above us only sky,
    Imagine all the people
    living for today...

    Imagine there's no countries,
    It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
    No religion too,
    Imagine all the people
    living life in peace...

    Imagine no possesions,
    I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
    A brotherhood of man,
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

    Believe in yourself, not mythology.

    Lots of stuff
Last few years CREED has been at the top of the list
Check out this song, makes me think of the situation that a lot of
    Ex-dubs are in:

    Who's Got My Back Now

    Run…hide
All that was sacred to us
    Sacred to us
    See the signs
    The covenant has been broken
    By mankind
    Leaving us with no shoulder…
    with no shoulder
    To rest our head on
    To rest our head on
    To rest our head on

    Who’s got my back now?
When all we have left is deceptive
    So disconnected
So what is the truth now?

    There’s still time
    All that has been devastated
    Can be recreated
    Realize
We pick up the broken pieces
    Of our lives
    Giving ourselves to each other…
    ourselves to each other
    To rest our head on
    To rest our head on
    To rest our head on

    Who’s got my back now?
When all we have left is deceptive
    So disconnected
So what is the truth now?

    Tell me the truth now…
    Tell us the truth now

    Who’s got my back now?
When all we have left is deceptive
    So disconnected
So what is the truth now?

All That Could Never Be Said
All That Could Never Be Done
Will Wait for Us At Last,
    Somewhere Behind The Sun

I've had a liking lately for:

Even before I found out officially, I was pretty sure that Dave Mustaine had been a JW. I suppose his mother still is.

You can really hear this influence in a few of their newest songs (i.e. Promises)

My favorite Megadeth song: Hook in Mouth (at least its up there on the list)

I didn't mention them in my favorites...but, I do like some of their songs. Maybe I would have liked them better if I had known them when they still had bangs.

I first became aware of this song several years ago after leaving the JWs. I met a very angry ExJW who literally hated the witnesses. He felt abused by his lifestyle as a JW growing up and he would never forgive them.

    The Unforgiven

    New blood joins this earth
    and quikly he's subdued
    through constant pain disgrace
the young boy learns their rules

with time the child draws in
    this whipping boy done wrong
    deprived of all his thoughts
the young man struggles on and on he's known
    a vow unto his own
    that never from this day
    his will they'll take away

    what I've felt
    what I've known
never shined through in what I've shown
    never be
    never see
won't see what might have been

    what I've felt
    what I've known
never shined through in what I've shown
    never free
    never me
    so I dub thee unforgiven

    they dedicate their lives
    to running all of his
he tries to please them all
    this bitter man he is
    throughout his life the same
    he's battled constantly
    this fight he cannot win
a tired man they see no longer cares
    the old man then prepares
    to die regretfully
that old man here is me

    what I've felt
    what I've known
never shined through in what I've shown
    never be
    never see
won't see what might have been

    what I've felt
    what I've known
never shined through in what I've shown
    never free
    never me
    so I dub the unforgiven

    you labeled me
    I'll label you
    so I dub the unforgiven
