KH and Gold Scam part 2

At our hall..we were given a 0% loan for remodel as long as we paid it back in a very short period of time. And even though the building has long been paid for by the congregation and yet our reserves were low, inorder to get that loan, we were to turn over hall ownership to the society. Since the congregation had to vote on it, and no one is going to raise thier hand against, it got passed. I notice some of the elders know this is crap since the majority of them didn't raise thier hand fore or against. The thing is, people just don't think about it..its a decision made on a whim. Group dynamic type stuff i think. Also, we were asked for a one time donation to the congregation that would help pay for atleast 50% of the loan up front so it could be paid off quicker. After a couple months, we raised the amount needed and even had a surplus. Well, guess what happened to the surplus. The elders sent it off as an extra donation on behalf of our congregation...sneaky choice of words after it was announced. The surplus did not go to our loan payment. The congregation is relatively poor as it is..i think the society is crossing the line.

Also, as a side note. I'm sure all people are aware of the part we had at the meeting on the donating of gold. I find it funny that they would have a complete part on this (giving us the process on how to go about it) being that the price of gold has been reaching all time highs for the last few years.

Conclusion...the WT is a strong publishing and real estate business that also dabbles in gold.

I'm not aware of it at all.

What was it, a local needs part? That sounds really bizarre.

No..not a local needs part. It was a part on the service meeting on donations we had at the latter part of 2011. It may have been part of a question box. They gave an example about how some woman dropped in a valuable gold coin in the contribution box at the district convention and the brothers didn't know what to do with it. So in the part, the society recommended that if anyone has gold they wish to donate, to send it to them in a package and they will be able to get a better price for it than we would if we sold it at a local gold buyer. I'll search thru it all and find it when i get home. If someone beats me too it..awesome.

Wow that's pretty bizarre. Nothing like that was said in the US in the standard "give us your money" Service meeting part in November.

    What country are you in?

They have this in KMs close to the end of the year as they guilt people into donating and how they can get tax receipts if done before Dec 31. In the KM, wts usually mention, cash, stocks, bonds, property, gold, and any other valuables. Someone must have caught on to gold and emphasised that point from KM but that was most likely just a local elder's emphasis on gold and not wts outline.

I was in Horndean congregation when it was said from the platform so it would have to have been prior to 2004.

The yearly 'remember us in your will' article mentions you can leave valuables to the society, I'm not sure if they mentioned jewellry...

Well, in reality unless you donate a huge amount of money to the organization, this is not going to affect your tax return. Donating a couple of thousand in Gold (lets say) will still be less that the standard deduction that the government gives you on your taxes, so it will not benefit you in any way.

Once a loan like that is paid back in full to the WTS, does a congregation get their KH back from the WTS?
