Are you suggesting that SHIBBOLETH is no longer the current password?
George
The past word is still "please give me the shaft". A little Bethel slang for you all there.
Thanks to this website I am kept current to all this talk update.
When I'm at meeting........... I zone out so much that I don't catch on!
Going to boasting sessions keep the sheeple in line with their noo light
Thanks, if I ever need to pass myself off as a JW, I'll need to delete that word from my vocabulary. Long term faders take heed, so as not to draw attention to yourself when you visit JW relatives. No sense ruining the party by using the wrong word around JWs.
Org! Org!! Org!! Org! Org! Org!
There, I fixed it:
“In order to avoid misunderstandings obscure the truth, Jehovah’s Witnessesyou should try to be careful about how they you express themselves yourselves. Instead of saying, “the Society teaches,” many Witnesses we prefer you to use such expressions as, “the Bible says” or, “I understand the Bible to teach.” In this way they you emphasize the personal decision that each Witness has made in accepting Bible teachings and also avoid giving the false accurate impression that Witnesses somehow- having been brainwashed - are bound to the dictates of some religious sect cult.” —The Watchtower, March 15, 1998, p. 19. {SBC EDITION}
Caution of using the term was issued in 1998:
“In order to avoid misunderstandings, Jehovah’s Witnesses try to be careful about how they express themselves. Instead of saying, “the Society teaches,” many Witnesses prefer to use such expressions as, “the Bible says” or, “I understand the Bible to teach.” In this way they emphasize the personal decision that each Witness has made in accepting Bible teachings and also avoid giving the false impression that Witnesses are somehow bound to the dictates of some religious sect.”—The Watchtower, March 15, 1998, p. 19.
Eerily reminiscent of the instructions given to witnesses facing the selective service draft boards in the 1960s - "NEVER say that the WTBTS or the Society told you what to do - ALWAYS say that it was your own private decision".
This is the ultimate religious cult weasel-out: Telling people what to do, and telling them never to admit that they were told what to do. It is OK if they go under the wheels of the bus, but the leaders (the society) must be protected at all costs.
and also avoid giving the false impression that Witnesses are somehow bound to the dictates of some religious sect.”—The Watchtower, March 15, 1998, p. 19.
And further - the above is a bald-faced LIE. Witnesses are absolutely bound to the dictates of the Watchtower or else they are drummed out of the religion.
I remember they have been trying to change up the language the whole time I was using it.
It may be that updating terms makes them feel like they are moving forward, but a rose by any other name or a pile of dung by any other name smells the same.
The NEW WORLD ORDER did sound too military and was pretty much taken to mean "One-World Government." The term was even taken from outside the JW's and had been around a long time.
I suppose "society" was too cultish in sound, or possibly gave too much credit to the group of people making it up instead of to the leaders as "Jehovah's organization" implies.
"Delete the word society we don't talk about the society any more. We talk about the organization."
A wiki search gives a possible answer:
"Watch Tower Society or Watchtower Bible and Tract Society may refer to:
Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, the primary corporation for administration of Jehovah's Witnesses' activities worldwide
Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, the corporation for administrative functions of Jehovah's Witnesses within the United States"
The Watchtower has repeatedly state that the individual witnesses are NOT representatives of The Watchtower Society.
Hence the instruction not to refer to "The Society" but rather to "The Organization."
"The Organization" does not reference any legal entity, and hence the use of the term by a JW distances "The Society" from anything the individual might say or do.
This "new light" appears to be a tactic designed to protect the Watchtower corporations from legal liability.
