I remember I heard that Colorado rumor through Ed Dunlap back in those days - but we were never totally sure if it was really true or what city in Colorado that happened in.

    No.

Kinda off the topic, I remember in the mid to late 90's.......... 95,96,97' I did the magazines and literature. We'd get anti-JW or 'apostate' handbills inside the shipment of mags from NY.

The elders looked at us kinda sideways for a while and they began opening the magazines themselves for a little bit. Then it passed over. No more stuff.

"I know of a congregation in Colorado that circulated a petition that was signed by most in the congregation and submitted it to the WTS. The WTS was not amused and dissolved the congregation. ..." Blondie

"I believe I have heard that story from Colorado as well - did that happen in the late 1970s or early 1980s? ..." james_woods

In the mid to late 1990’s there was several “talks” about not using any other literature to study the bible and they absolutely forbade (forbade? Forbided? Lol) anyone breaking into smaller groups or people having meetings in smaller groups. At one point it was popular for families in our circuit with teenage children to have dinner together on Friday or Saturday evening and then study the WT for the following Sunday. It was part book study part family study but mostly was used so parents could supervise whatever interaction their teenagers had with other teenagers specifically of the opposite sex. This eventually backfired when like minds started catching on to the complete BS in the magazines and they started studying publications not from WTBTS. This turned them into apostates and several elders were removed/reproved. I remember being about 17 or 18 and sitting through one of those lovely studies about marriage and sex while sitting across the room from my crush and her father. It was awesome.

    Mysterious growth and ejection.

    Binging and purging.

Sounds like the $ociety needs help; they might be bulimic.

I have not heard of congregations dissolved for apostasy. Indeed, I'd be very surprised if a congregation of JWs anywhere had the collective intelligence, interest and curiosity to bother to be worried about doctrine and policy.

On the other hand, I have a hunch that the number of congregations dissolved for apathy might be significantly higher and a more likely occurrence - especially in Western countries. Falling asleep is as effective a way as any to leave the organization - and is a damn sight less distressing all round . Sleep walking is a good first step to going through the motions whilst one is building up the nerve to hibernate. It's best preceded by a polite request as follows:

"Excuse me, brother, I'm feeling a wave of uncontrollable ennui coming over me and need to shut eyes for a very, very long time"

Some on this forum have mentioned the dearth of qualified brothers in their very locality to step into the vacated shoes of the dwindling numbers of elders and ministerial servants. This may not represent dissolving of a congregation but it could be a ready source of dissolving of motivation and will to go on in the organization.

    @ Blondie and James Wood,

I heard tales of the congregation in Colorado by a CO who said he was the "trouble shooter" during the meltdown. Do you remember the time frame of the Congregation In Colorado, that went off on their own? If it is pre-1979, I know the trouble shooter, he is probably 85 years old now. I would put this in the time of 1960s, he was in South Texas in the early 1950s.

@blacksheep: The Romanian people don't like to put up with wavering crap! I understand how they would not waffle under the skinny palm tree of doctrine, blowing every which way, with each new breeze. Nice thread, thank you!

There was a congregation in Sicily I believe where they left en masse ,about 50 of them if memory serves, the Elders had a You-tube vid explaining it, the WT have proabably got it taken down now, it put the WT in a bad light, it made them look like a high-control Cult for heavens sake !
