In 12-step programs they already have a name for it--"stinking thinking". It means you haven't left your old thinking and it's going to cause you trouble.

Cofty's law works for me. A lot more straightforward.

How about DoVotion?
DoVotion: Dog returning to vomit and devotion to such.

I confess, I invoked it on the same thread, but come on,,, when someone says they don't want to "STUMBLE ANYONE",,, what else could I say? - talesin
There are legitimate exceptions to Godwin's law. For example, if somebody advocates eugenics it is not unreasonable to note a possible Nazi influence. Similarly when somebody uses "theocratic" terminology or promotes JW teachings its not offensive to point that out.

Lot's Wife's Law because they are looking at the things behind them.

"How about DoVotion?

All right....
I vote for....
Cofty's Law!!!
It's shorter, and gives credit to ONE of the people who came up with that concept...
*************************************************************************
But I like JW Facts idea - have TWO laws...
"DOVOtion" is such a good expression, it ought to be used for something similar....
"Cofty's Law" could apply to the actual act of accusing someone of still acting/thinking like a JW, while "DOVOtion" could apply to the mental processes of people who are physically OUT - like disfellowshipped persons - who cannot get themselves MENTALLY out...
"Wow, you are so judgemental!! You're still acting like you're a Jehovah's Witness..."
COFTY'S LAW!!!
"My brother has been disfellowshipped, but he still thinks it's the "trooth"... His brain is still in DOVOtion to the cult..."
DOVOTION!!!

Instead of GodWIN's Law, how about GodLOSES' Law.
Or Simply Simon Says!
On the other hand, I do believe that citing it is often a quick way to avoid addressing the point in a debate. There must be another name for that! ... lol

I remember proposing Godwin's Law with the JW variant (a great name all on it's own). I proposed that the person who made the comparison of another poster to JW'S would lose the debate by default. That should at least be modified- instead of losing, they lose the right to further input on the subject because of thier still cult- captive thinking.
I like the idea of calling attention to it, but would probably leave it as above- a JW variant on Godwin's law. That way, the person would still have to look it up and maybe learn something.
Otherwise, the use of "OTWO" or any use of the full term it derives from is too cumbersome. I came onto Godwin's Law on my own and assume Cofty and others did also. Beside, I don't want any laws named for me in any form. I am more "Outlaw." (Pun intended.) "Cofty's Law" works with me.

How about Cofty's Corollary. Since it's a concept that follows from Godwin's Law, calling it a corollary makes sense. Plus it's more euphonious!
Definition of Corollary
1 : a proposition inferred immediately from a proved proposition with little or no additional proof
2 a : something that naturally follows : result
b : something that incidentally or naturally accompanies or parallels
