Thanks for the welcome! And for anyone interested, this is how a Jehovah's Witness has reproduced the article from the Awake on a Christianity message board of an internet provider (not sure whether I'm allowed to say which internet provider).

Note the changes made in this posting from the Awake article and the conclusions reached by the poster as a result of reading this article. Note also the use of quotation marks which compound the errors in Awake and which leads the reader to .... well read for yourself..... and draw your own conclusions:

    >This is a recent Quote from Australia's Sydney Morning Herald.

    >"One in three transfusions were being administered when under New South Wales Health guidelines they should not have been. The guidelines call for a blood transfusion if the patient's haemoglobin level is seven or below. Dr Ross Wilson who conducted the study on blood use explained that giving an unnecessary transfusion could kill a patient by inducing heart failure. According to a study that Dr Wilson conducted 6 years earlier about 18,000 Australians a year died as a result on complications they developed directly as a result of the medical treatment they received. Dr Wilson recommends that doctors be reminded of the blood transfusion health guidelines each time they request a transfusion and also that patients be informed about the guidelines so they can question their physician directly."

Conclusions drawn: >As previously mentioned on these boards the above would confirm that statistically more people die as a direct result of receiving blood transfusions than from refusing them. These deaths could have been prevented by applying the principles found in the Bible.

    >It is very rare for anyone to die as a result of refusal of blood.
Actually statistically more people die as a direct result of blood transfusion complications and I have on several occasions posted information to this effect.>

The ensuing discussion makes interesting reading on the board and when the errors were pointed out to this poster, a further post was added stating that she could not see any differences and that it all seemed accurate and that the poster who drew attention to the discrepancies was making mountains out of molehills!

The description of Awake on the WBTS official site with its circulation figure of 18 million copies in many languages (including circulation to those who 'do not otherwise have access to up to date medical information') is extremely worrying in light of the above.

So, there we go. As a result of this, I now comprehend the WBTS idea of 'accuracy' which is not in line with the OED definition by which I work!

Dr Ross Wilson is an Intensive Care physician at Royal North Shore Hospital, Pacific Highway, St Leonards, Sydney, New South Wales 2065 and also chairs the New South Wales Ministerial Advisory Committee on Health Care Quality. I will contact him via e-mail if someone can scan the quotation from Awake on here as I want to make sure that I do not give him any false information about the article. Any help would be appreciated.

If there are any Australian posters here who are in possession of the Awake article, they could mail a copy of it to Dr Ross Wilson at the above address.

The Sydney Morning Herald might also be interested to know how their article has been 'selectively edited'.

Now I now how apostates learned to quote. Cry all you want about an unfair quote when all of you twist everything the FDS says.

    On a lighter note:

Everytime I get an erection I pass out from the loss of blood to my penis; that is, my total blood volume decreases, due to the extra large volume of blood required to accomplish this feat of nature.

Do think the GB would deny me a blood transfusion? (I think I would need about 2 pints) Would I be in violation of the divine command to procreate?

    Welcome, Christian Observer.

I'd be happy to send you a scan of the article. You'd have to send me your e-mail address, though.

It is true that all genuine Christians speak in agreement. But this is not due to unyielding ecclesiastical pressure. Rather, it is because their beliefs and practices are soundly based on God’s inspired Word. (1 Corinthians 1:10; Acts 17:10, 11; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17)
