I love my Congregation and Can't Wait for the District Assembly!

Hello my fellow JWNers. I have been going the local Unitarian church off and on for a few years. My kids and I go regularly now and love it. We took the plunge and became an official members. This, after leaving the WTS over 20 years ago.

I have fallen in love with my congregation. I LOVE the people. I LOVE the openness. I LOVE the acceptance. I LOVE the diversity. It's such a special place.

As a group, a few days ago, we went to a local transitional housing facility and fed people there and brought care packages all the kids put together that included essential (and some luxury) toiletries. The gratitude and happiness in the faces of those we served made a big impact on my 7 year old. It was far more meaningful than anything I ever experienced as a JW. The UU church promotes such wonderful opportunities for families and friends to share amazing experiences and help others.

Our District Assembly is coming up at the end of next month, and it's close to where we live. I'm very excited. I can't wait for church each Sunday. Part of me wants to go door to door to tell others about the UUs. LOL!!! I've joked with others in my congregation about that and we have a good laugh. It's just SOOOOO not what the UUs are about. If anyone wants to know about the UU church go to: http://www.uua.org/

P.S. I am *not* counting my time with this post. LOL!!!

Are there any other UUs here?

I agree and am glad you found the UU's:)

I found my experience with them very refreshing.

They are all about serving others in practical ways and co-existing.

Hi Whitedove and Sayswho. Thanks for your replies. It is a wonderful and joyful experience to be amount fellow UU Church members.

Any other ex-JW Unitarians here on this board? It's about as opposite to the Watchtower as I can imagine. It did take me back a little the use of certain language like "congregation" and "assemblies" and "District Assembly" etc. Kind of like a bit of post traumatic stress reaction LOL. But it's very healing actually. :-D

Nice, sounds like a religion that enjoys doing things for others in helping people in need.

The JWs on the other hand, help out in the distributing a bogus religious publishing company's literature.

At least regular religion doesn't spend all its time beating up the flock for not doing more. That is why the Washtowel is going nowhere. Harping on missing boasting sessions, harping on pious-sneering, harping on participating in the boasting sessions, and so on is not going to get people interested in going. And why waste the time listening to some rubbish that people need to be there?

Thank you all for your nice comments and support. Today, church was interesting and it just plain felt good to be there with the rest of the group. It' s a cozy, comfy place. I am meeting with the minister next week as I will be doing an upcoming "Theological Reflections" talk given to the congregation. My first public talk at the church! I know it's coming up in the next few weeks, but we'll figure out the date this week, I think.

Some might find this funny -- as an Ex-JW, they think I would be PERFECT to join the membership committee. How funny is that?
