And therein lies the problem IMHO. Dedication is tied in with baptism. How can you understand what that really means. I was baptised in my twenties and can say that I never dedicated my life to anyone. Was baptised more to happify my brother and his wife who studied with us (my wife and I) didn't really do it for the "proper" reasons. Was an experience that was more negative than positive. Was at a larger assembly, herded into a cold huge changing area and then to the pool for dunking. At least at a smaller assembly there is the opportunity for the occassion to be somewhat of a personal occassion with some you know as observers. We were bussed from the assembly to the pool and back, a totally impersonal experience. I recall being approached by a reporter while waiting to board the bus back and being totally flustered trying to answer her questions regarding my experience and the reasons for doing it.
